First off we are not talking pass rush we are talking blitzing and that is almost all scheme and surprise. So no we don't need a Jack Linebacker who is going to put his hand in the dirt we need a 4-3linebacker who will blitz. But thank you for playing....

If you think a Jack LB puts his hand in the dirt that pretty much tells me why you have no concept of the LB position.

Smh pass rushing is a ability not something that can be easily taught and our scheme is heavily dependent on LBs that can blitz. Its why we need a Jack LB more than a ILB.

And you need to learn the difference between asking a LB to a pass rusher vs blitz. They aren't the same thing.

Also, Beason would likely be asked to blitz often more than Luke..... Something he hasn't been asked to do in the past

If you think Luke is a 2 down LB.....you don't know what a 2 down LB is.

Not for his coverage ability but for his blitzing. What your going to ask Beason or TD to ride the pine so a LB with no blitzing skills can take there place? I don't think so. If we still ran a cover 2 then no problem but not with our system.

Davis talk is silly. Done.

Beason has no ability to blitz per your logic....so I don't understand what you are suggesting he will be doing

No it's you who needs the lesson. You keep trying to mask the fact that the dude is not a complete LB and are failing horribly at it. So now you have Beason shifting from. MLB to will just so your pick will fit? Now that's laughable.

I am not the one who doesnt understand there is a difference between asking someone to be a pass rusher vs blitz.

Luke and Beason can both play either OLB or MLB. Point is having them both on the field....would make Carolina better. Talent wins.....not building a roster by drafting lesser talent bc you think it meets need

Last time I checked he was still on the roster and not retired.

Bob Sanders was on a lot of rosters as well. When a players body is done....it is done. Cant count in Davis for anything

You didn't address what Beason will be doing....or is that bc you only apply Luke logic to Luke?

What happens when we get Luke K, replaces TD at outside? or replaces Beason in the middle? If he can truly play outside which seems like a waste of Luke K's true mlb talent I am fine with it. What do you guys think if we pick him does he start day 1 at middle or outside?

christ. How many times do we have to explain that his scheme did not call for him to rush the passer, especially as a MLB.

Just because his coaches didnt blitz him does not mean that he cant blitz.

Besides, even if he doesnt rush the passer in the NFL, his good pursuit and coverage skills make him dependable to clean up any plays that get by if we rush other players like CB and other LBs.

We could have just kept Dan Connor if we wanted the player you just described.

    • I think his stats will depend on the development of the rookies and sophomore receivers, which isn't totally under is control. The eye test is a different story. Has to consistently look the part before you decide to pay him Purdy money.
    • Interestingly I think we have kind of of gone through this as an organization. Richardson implemented an FO driven tank. Bad roster, no cash spent, coach uninterested. It may have been for different reasons but I think the results were the same. A team that wasn't going to win many if any games. We ended up with the #1 pick. Cam Newton came in and changed the franchise. It worked, but Cam himself pointed to the losing culture in the locker room needing to be changed. It probably took about 2-3 years for that to happen. Tank worked pretty damn well for us. Cam is one of one. Not another like him, everyone can't deliver on his draft status AND change a culture basically on his own.  So as an exercise here are the last 30 #1 picks. If you tanked and got to pick #1 how many of these guys do you think were worth it? Not just good players, but franchise changers. Guys who will take your culture and shift it so the tank was actually worth it. I would say maybe 9 or 10 guys would be worth a tank, pending the last 5 picks?    2025: Cam Ward (Miami (FL)) - Tennessee Titans 2024: Caleb Williams (USC) – Chicago Bears 2023: Bryce Young (Alabama) – Carolina Panthers 2022: Travon Walker (Georgia) – Jacksonville Jaguars 2021: Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) – Jacksonville Jaguars 2020: Joe Burrow (LSU) – Cincinnati Bengals 2019: Kyler Murray (Oklahoma) – Arizona Cardinals 2018: Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma) – Cleveland Browns 2017: Myles Garrett (Texas A&M) – Cleveland Browns 2016: Jared Goff (California) – Los Angeles Rams 2015: Jameis Winston (Florida State) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2014: Jadeveon Clowney (South Carolina) – Houston Texans 2013: Eric Fisher (Central Michigan) – Kansas City Chiefs 2012: Andrew Luck (Stanford) – Indianapolis Colts 2011: Cam Newton (Auburn) – Carolina Panthers 2010: Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) – St. Louis Rams 2009: Matthew Stafford (Georgia) – Detroit Lions 2008: Jake Long (Michigan) – Miami Dolphins 2007: JaMarcus Russell (LSU) – Oakland Raiders 2006: Mario Williams (North Carolina State) – Houston Texans 2005: Alex Smith (Utah) – San Francisco 49ers 2004: Eli Manning (Mississippi) – San Diego Chargers 2003: Carson Palmer (USC) – Cincinnati Bengals 2002: David Carr (Fresno State) – Houston Texans 2001: Michael Vick (Virginia Tech) – Atlanta Falcons 2000: Courtney Brown (Penn State) – Cleveland Browns 1999: Tim Couch (Kentucky) – Cleveland Browns 1998: Peyton Manning (Tennessee) – Indianapolis Colts 1997: Orlando Pace (Ohio State) – St. Louis Rams 1996: Keyshawn Johnson (USC) – New York Jets 1995: Ki-Jana Carter (Penn State) – Cincinnati Bengals
