Best De / Cb Combo For The Draft

Taking Coples at 9 just doesnt seem the most optimal imo.

We can get arguably the best pure pass rusher in the draft in Vinny Curry in the second. Had like 20 sacks his last two years as Marshal. Posted almost 100 tackles as a dlinemen last year! Nice moves, combined with an endless motor and very long 35 inch arms! There is even a chance Nick Perry will be there in the second along with Chandler Jones.

So i'm thinking the best thing to do is go CB in the first and DE in the 2nd. Trade back for a 3rd. Then go OLB in the 3rd.

Imagine this draft.

1st - Jenkins

2nd - Vinny Curry or Nick Perry or Chandler Jones

3rd - Bruce Irving or Mychal Kendricks

Come away with the best cover corner and arguably the 2 best pass rushers in the draft.

Curry seems extremely reactive from that video. He seems to be very aware and changes his pursuit extremely quickly. Granted that IS a highlight video and pretty much everyone looks good in highlight videos.

I doubt we would spend a first on Jenkins. I could see Gilmore being an option at 9 though.

You dont get almost 100 tackles as a dlinemen without being extremely aware and having some nice agility. Not to mention needing a non stop motor.

Add the insane number of tackles to his 12 sacks and 14 tackles for loss and man, thats a freaking steal in the 2nd as far as im concerned.

The best CB DE combo would be Claiborne and Jones.

We trade back we could go Jones, Jenkins, and Lavonte David....

Jenkins is def better than Claiborne when it comes to pure coverage skills and fluidity.

As of right now id give Curry and Perry the edge in pure pass rushing abilities with Jones having more potential / upside.

Well I'm glad that's just your opinion

If we traded with New England, who gives up their 1st rounders we could go with the following options:

CB: Jenkins

DE: Jones or Perry (depending on who is available)

and then in then 2nd:

LB: Zach Brown or Lavonte David

Get them to throw in their 3rd (it'd be pretty even trade with value chart):

LB: Terrell Manning (I think he goes higher than we've been thinking).

Dream draft.

NE would never do that.

I doubt we could even get another 2nd, a 3rd is much more realistic.

Draft value chart:

New England's first 2 picks = 1270

Carolina Panthers #9 pick = 1350

There is a reason so many teams are trying to trade back. Not alot of elite talent outside of the top 5 picks and to many quality guys to be had in the 1st and 2nd.

Like I said, getting a 3rd is much more realistic

    • You are right. At the same time I don’t think people are watching games going come on Bryce put it on the ground or sail it OB or whatever. They just have trouble seeing him turning his 3 or four or five top games of 2025 into the weekly standard outing. Which you expect for the kind of money he will ask for (speaking for myself anyway).
    • In terms of comparing Pickett and Young's arm talent it's basically a push at best. Pickett is sitting at 6.2 yards per pass attempt for his career while Bryce sits at 6.0 Last season Bryce was 6.3 in yards per pass attempt. Only Justin Fields Spencer Rattler (both 6.2) Kyler Murray (6.0) 41 year old Joe Flacco (6.0) 44 year old Phillip Rivers (5.9) rookie Cam Ward (5.9) and Tyrod Taylor (5.8) had less pass yards per attempt than Bryce Young in his third season as a starter. Folks going around acting as if it is beyond the pale to say Pickett might have a better arm than Young are living in an alternate reality. You can choose to not believe your own eyes after 46 games but everyone else will acknowledge reality and move forward accordingly.
