He wouldnt be ready. Try to trade for Cutler, Quinn or atleast attempt to upgrade the position.

I don't think it's that easy to say those would have been smart moves for a variety of reasons. I do think they should draft the future guy this next draft though. I am also surprised they haven't locked up either Moore or McCown past this year though perhaps they are waiting for TC to see who wins that battle and they will then lock that guy up for a bit.

I think your right on the training camp battle. Another reason i hated them for giving up next years first. They could have used it on a QB and let him sit behind Jake and Moore. Yeah it would have been costly the first couple of years but well worht it.

Shoot, I didn't even think of that aspect. I would likely have agreed with their using a first on a QB next year provided the talent level in the draft is there.

Fox and Hurney have both publicly stated, (and I know I'm going to get challenged on this, keep up people) that they are not in favor of drafting a QB in the first round. Too much money to try to groom a franchise QB and of course as more will say, we can't do that anyway...

Yeha they have but if the talent is good enough it is worth the risk.

Yeah I know Mint, I've even read where Fox was quoted that he would play the same way even if he had Elway @ QB. I wish I could find that quote. I am not disagreeing with you (or them on their philosophy of NOT drafting one in the first as a general rule, I agree with that too). I just wouldn't be upset with using a #1 pick if it's a good team. I think they will be good enough as a team to afford to do it next year.

I'm not advocating the "draft a QB with next year's first if we had a first" approach, and as Mintal pointed out, it's clear this organization does not favor that approach either, but it is pretty obvious that we could wind up with a first next year if Fox and Hurney wanted one.

A) Trade up

or

B) Peppers gets traded after next year

agreed. if there is someone we want badly enough in the 1st, hurney will make it happen.

I like to think there are three most likely scenarios when it comes to developing QBs in the first round/investing in fresh QBing in general.

you can try and SUCCEED

you can try and FAIL

or

you can NOT try and FAIL

as I've said before, football is a game of knowing when to take a risk. You don't get very far taking risks everywhere you go and you don't get very far taking no risks. But fug it, let's just keep on going about QB with a self-defeatist attitude of "who do we get?":frown2: to improve the quality of the position.

    • https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46683459/2025-nfl-offseason-tiers-32-teams-best-worst-signings-trades-draft-barnwell Slightly above expectations Highlights: Trading WR Adam Thielen, signing RB Rico Dowdle (one year, $2.8 million), drafting fifth-round TE Mitchell Evans   Disappointments: Re-signing CB Mike Jackson (two years, $10.5 million)   The Panthers chose the right time to move on from Thielen, who had been productive in Carolina before being dealt to Minnesota just before the season. He has been lost in the shuffle there. While the Panthers won't see the fourth-round pick that forms the bulk of the return for Thielen until 2027, getting out from what was owed to a player who has 47 receiving yards in Minnesota is an easy victory. Dowdle has been a revelation since moving into the starting lineup after Chuba Hubbard's injury, becoming one of a handful of players in NFL history to produce consecutive 200-yard scrimmage games. The former Cowboys back was averaging 3 yards per carry before the opportunity, so I'm not sure I would count on him playing like Jim Brown the rest of the way in a rotational role alongside Hubbard. But it's hard to argue that Carolina hasn't already gotten its $2.8 million worth out of the 27-year-old back. Most of Carolina's biggest moves are either tracking to be right around expectation (drafting wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan) or have been impacted by unexpected injuries (signing defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton). Jackson was a pleasant surprise as a starter in 2024, and he hasn't been terrible this season, but most of the big plays against Carolina have come on throws against the former Seahawks cornerback. Overall, though, this has been a very reasonable offseason for the Panthers
    • How would you have taken the guy who was picked ahead of us? That makes no sense.
    • I am not denying that things were said. That wasn’t my point. But carry on this will go nowhere.    Oh snap, the post calling him a liar was like three posts before you jumped in.  what do you get, a post a page?
