Julius Peppers question...?

Recommended Posts

The beauty of it (unless I've been misinformed) is that 2010 and 2011 are uncapped years for the NFL... We can tag him again next year (for approximately 20 mil), as well as the year after (for approximately 24 mil), without any salary cap drawbacks... Then, when he is 32 in 2012 we can franchise him again (a 4th time), and trade him for whatever we can get for him, having effectively retained his services through the prime of his career...

The decision is not 100 percent about the non-capped year. If the NFL cannot reach an agreement with the players association, then it will be non-capped. I believe, but I am not 100 percent sure.

I THINK the deadline has passed for 2010, with 2011 now the target of the discussion... But, I too am not sure about this...

heh, cruel is definitely in the eye of the beholder... I can't imagine the definition of cruel being 20-24 million for 17 games... =)

Heck, if I was Pep, I would be PRAYING this is what happened... it would effectively be a 3 year $61 million contract!

It's my understanding that you can only tag a guy 2x.

Given the apparent lack of interest, I think it's much more likely that Peppers will change his mind a sign a contract with us.

Actually, upon further research, the limit is 3 times... So in my scenario we'd have to knock off the 4th year of it... Oh well, we'd still have him til he was 32... heh

I'm fairly certain that 2 years is the limit, but who knows in an uncapped year. It's time to renegotiation with the players association and all bets are off. We just don't really know what the rules are this year, but all bets on, all bets off, I'd say peppers and his agent fvcked themselves, nicely...

    • Yuck.  I still kind of like Herbert but these playoff performances are rough....
    • I feel like this was the case with River and McDermott defenses as well, we just had the jimmies and the joes to overcome these deficiencies with all pro players at edge and linebacker positions.  Even then, was extremely frustrated in 2015 when we'd let team come back from 20+ pt deficits playing prevent only to barely win at the end.
    • We need to move on soon and just use Bryce as a bridge to find our next guy. I'd like to see how this offense works with Canales hand picking his own guy. Bryce holds this offense back a lot considering you draft the first pick to carry your team and be your best player. We invested heavily for Bryce and need everything to go right just to have him look like a solid game manager sometimes. When he plays well he can look decent or mid, but when he plays bad he looks like a bottom 5 qb in league (backups included). It's not worth it, especially if we need to pay him soon, which means we have to skimp all over the roster. If the defenses don't hand it to us on a silver platter Atlanta style then we struggle big time. Defenses don't respect the offense at all. With Cam we could have the worst offensive talent and I'd still think we had a shot in any game we played. If Bryce is facing a 3rd and 10 I pretty much wave the white flag and don't think we can make that first down.
