I'm pretty sure losing Sal Sunseri (D-line Coach) was not a good thing... dude knows football. Im not sure who the new D-line coach is, but it'll be pretty hard to be as good as Sal. While losing Trgo is a good thing (so we think), not so sure bout Sal.

Overall though, we definitely added some depth. Is our D-line going to be premier now? No. I just hope its better than last year.

losing sal wasn't a bad thing either.

you might want to familiarize yourself with our new Dline coach, Brian Baker. I pulled this bio from the league site:

Coaching

Brian Baker, a veteran of 13 seasons as an NFL assistant and 12 as a college coach – including 11 in the Atlantic Coast Conference – was named the Panthers defensive line coach on February 13, 2009 following three years in the same position with the St. Louis Rams.

In 2008, Baker presided over a St. Louis defensive line that accounted for 20 of the team’s 30 sacks and ranked 11th in the NFL in sacks per pass play. During the 2006 season, he coached defensive end Leonard Little, who tied for fifth in the league with 13 sacks, and defensive tackle La’Roi Glover, who collected 5.5 sacks – the sixth most by a defensive tackle in the NFC.

Prior to joining the Rams, Baker spent five years with Minnesota, serving as defensive line coach in 2001 and 2004-05 and linebackers coach from 2002-03. He was instrumental in the development of defensive tackle Kevin Williams, who made the Pro Bowl and earned Associated Press All-Pro honors in 2004. That season, Williams led all NFL defensive tackles with 11.5 sacks and teamed with defensive end Lance Johnstone to give the Vikings the third-most prolific sack tandem in the league with 22.5.

From 1997-2000, Baker tutored the defensive line for Detroit. Under his direction those four years, the Lions defensive line tallied 120.5 sacks, and two defensive linemen were selected to the Pro Bowl: defensive end Robert Porcher in 1997 and 1999 and defensive tackle Luther Elliss in 1999 and 2000. Baker’s 1998 and 1999 units finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the league in sacks per pass play, and in 1999 Porcher recorded 15 sacks, the fourth-highest total in team history.

i want you to look at that again and tell me if you notice anything particular about what they emphasized. are there any recurring themes?

and then think about what meeks has done with a Tampa2.....the dline brings all the pressure to the QB while the back 7 limits the QBs options.

i think baker fits perfectly with what the defense is going to be doing and that bio gives you a clue as to the direction they will be going.

We are def shifting to a zone oriented Defense. Im not gonna call it Tampa 2 yet but he is def a Lovie Smith disciple. IMO Peppers is crazy not to play this year with all the new schemes he will be used in.

    • As I've said numerous times the last few days, having Thielen on the field has literally 0% to do with my views on this (I've even said I think Renfrow is going to take a ton of snaps from Thielen anyways).  He has more value to this team without playing a single snap than a 2026 5th round draft pick does for the franchise.   His value is helping set up T-Mac, XL, Coker, and Horn for long term success by helping them learn how to be pros, how to go about their business, how to train, how to do all the little things that helped turn Thielen from a D2 undrafted player into a borderline Vikings legend.
    • He only wants to be traded because it's the Vikings who are calling. If he didn't want to be here, he could have retired, instead he took a pay raise to come back for another season.  I get it, it's an opportunity that he'd like to take, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face because he now wants to jump at this opportunity less than two weeks before the season starts. I'm not against trading him, I'm just against trading him for a return that doesn't help our team as much as having him on the roster would.  I'll put it this way, if a 5th is the best we can get for him from the Vikings and he's now dug in on not wanting to stay this year, I'm saying screw you and trading him to any of the other 30 teams besides the Vikings for the best offer we can get. He was perfectly happy here a week ago, if the Vikings soured him on that and then want to get him for peanuts, then screw them both.
    • Yes and no, he wants to go back and his wife most definitely wants to go back. He took a bunch of team mates to Minny and has worked out with JJ two offseasons in a row. It's where both him and his wife are from.    The money was basically a please come back and help Bryce. Pretty please...here's some more money.    Now he's agreed to a paycut to go back to the Vikings.
