Rivera Was Right To Keep Beason In The Middle

Recommended Posts

The only thing that Rivera has said us that Beason is starting with reps in the middle right now....which is the right thing to do.

We do not know if he will be there to start the season. It all depends on how he had recovered. I hope and expect him to be near 100% and in the middle, but nothing is set yet.

Rivera knows defense and especially the lb position. He will evaluate the situation and put the best combination of lb's on the field. That much I know.

Yep! Just because Beason is in the middle now doesn't mean he is going to stay in the middle. People may not want to believe it, or may not be even able to conceive it, but it's true. I'm keeping the faith.

Beason will start at ILB from day 1 & if healthy nothing will change.

Agreed....if healthy. No one would argue that point.

Question is... Will he be healthy enough.

His workout video looked good, but there is still a lot that has to happen. Rivera will put the best combination on the field.

Exactly. People need to stop acting like they know whether or not Beason will be at 100%. You don't, the workout video is reason for optimism, but ultimately doesn't prove much. You won't know until he takes the field. So please, you guys need to stop calling people dumb because you somehow know better than everyone else. You don't.

He said he was 80% a few weeks ago so I think he'll be ready by September.

From all the indications I have read and heard, Rivera is pleasantly suprised at the progress both Davis and Beason have made. If what he says is true, and not just coach speak, then why can't we, as fans, prepare as if they both will be back? Rivera has stated that the best players for each package will play. IMO, that means the guy with the most versatility will get the most playing time. How many packages can I get in on? And this phylosophy applies to almost every position.

At this point in time, no one, not even Rivera, knows who is going to play where and when.

Competition. Been gone a long time haven't you? And GOOOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take what athletes say with a grain of salt. They will always say they are ready.

Not saying he won't be near 100%. But him saying he will be ready is nothing more.

Did some of you seriously think a rookie LB was going to replace an All-Pro ILB & defensive captain in the prime of his career?

OK, I think something needs to be cleared up because people keep saying this and it is sort of bothersome.

Just because Kuechly might have played MLB doesn't mean he was going to replace anybody. Beason would have still started and in all likelyhood, both players would see the field an equal amount. In all likelyhood, they still will. The MIKE and WILL thing comes down to who fits what better. If Beason would excel at both while Kuechly is better at MIKE, they'd go that route. If Kuechly could excel at both while Beason would only maintain his stellar level at MIKE, they'd go that route. If it didn't matter regardless, well then it doesn't matter regardless.

I seriously doubt anybody here thought Kuechly was going to replace Beason. Well, maybe some but those would be idiots anyway and not worth bringing up. Both are going to start. The only player being replaced is Thomas Davis.

Hopefully Beason makes a full recovery & our starters are Kuechly Beason Anderson. That's a very good LB group. If Davis can stay healthy playing limited snaps as a situational LB I see our defense being above average.

Couple of things. IF (HUGE IF, cannot state this enough) both Beason and TD are both 100% healthy, does this make James Anderson demoted to backup despite him being so consistent and really just an accountable guy?

Second, I saw the thing about possible NBA players in the NFL. I understand Graham, Gates and Tony G, considering they all have basketball experience, but why is Calvin rated above them? Because he's tall and can leap like crazy? 6-5 is tall for an NFL wideout, but in the NBA it's nothing compared to guys like Durant and Lebron. Also, why wasn't peppers on that list? Dude is by far the most accomplished basketball athlete in the NFL. He was on a UNC final four basketball team (I think he might have been a starter too).

Even if your intent is to move Kuechly into the middle (and I believe this is Rivera's intent) you can't just take the MLB job from a veteran pro-bowl player who is one of the leaders of the team and hand it to a rookie. That wouldn't be fair to either Beason or Kuechly.
