Huddle Workout Warriors

A little different than most posts here, but there is this one guy at my gym who stands out for a grunt that is a mix between a military hooah and a smoker clearing their throat. The gentleman grunts during any and all workouts whether he is lifting or on the treadmill. I noticed this the other day while I was on the elliptical. I observed this guy pushing to the point that I was looking for an AED. He continued, but I was confused as to why anyone would grunt like that, especially during cardio. I can understand if he was about to set a new personal best and grunted, or he was trying to finish the last of a set, but he does it haphazardly.

Since he goes to the gym often, his random vocalization of his effort has begun to annoy others. When approached about why he does this, he insults the person, brags about his weight loss (it is impressive), and tells the person they aren't on his level.

I do the same thing while running (pounding pavement, not on a fuging elliptical)

I don't know why I do it; it just kinda comes from my diaphragm on its own when I feel like I'm gonna die.

when weights get heavy you'll make noise. some people overdue it. i breathe out loudly on every heavy squat on the way up. it's a way to control my breathing.

Now yeah deadlift or OLY pre I'm going to make sure everyone in the gym knows but that's obviously not going to happen at PF

Took Fiz's advice about doing deadlifts strapped and got some chalk from a guy that I did deadlifts with on Wednesday...

Was able to easily get 405x4 and 455x2 unstrapped with chalk... that chalk is the bomb...  and that was a really good point about being able to simply drop the weight if you get in trouble... something you can't do if strapped up.

Started back deadlifts today.

135x6 and 225x6

Yeah, I'm a little wimp.  Back is a little tight right now, but not that "bad" kind of tight.

I feel confident increasing weight and getting back into a more consistent routine.

Felt good, man.  Felt good.

It's not the weight it's the form...  do it right and the weight will come... that goes for any exercise.

if you did a set of 6 at 135 then jumped and did the same at 225 that's a really stupid lifting routine you're doing. I know you were probably fuging around but still.

Also I had my first crossfit internship at Crossfit Reading, UK today. Didn't really get to do much. Oh well.

I hear what you're saying. Just really trying to get a feel for where I'm at after about a month off of deadlifts. Gonna get my routine down next time.

Im pretty loud sometimes when doing really tough cardio. Especially 40 plus minutes of it. And occasionally ill get congestion going on too. Its not quiet or pleasant sounding thing, good thing I work out at home.

That is realistic if you do it right. Lift heavy, eat protein.

I deadlifted again today and got another PR... 515x1

I've been around 220 before and it took me about two years to get that big but I was younger then. I got 1 mr today and did 6 chest exercises 3 sets each and the same on tris. Will see how tomorrow morning goes lol

    • Yep. I was hoping for and calling for a day three guy. But I didn’t research the position to say if we should or should‘t have jumped at a particular guy at a particular spot.    And everything I read said it was a poor draft for RBs depth wise. I guess when Seattle takes a backup RB in the 1st, that kind of backs that up.    I definitely think we should keep 4 running backs and if King can play well enough then keep him too.    I believe I heard Canales say we are a running team (talking about drafting a WR he will be needing to block as well as catch). Well if we are gonna be a running team by identity we don’t need to stock the WR room to overflowing. If one room has to sacrifice, it should not be the RB room given our circumstances.
    • If there's a pattern I'm definitely picking up from Dan and company is a philosophy of making trades where we try not to sacrifice the number of draft picks we have by day's end. In other words, we're not giving up three picks for one, or giving up a future pick to make a pick today. And even if we give up something at the start, we make trades later to make up for that initial loss. Here's how it stacked up for 2026: How we started: 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 How we ended: 19, 49, 83, 129, 144, 151, 227 (no future picks sacrificed) Ultimately, we moved up two spots in the second to ensure we got someone we coveted, gave up a few spots for our fourth round pick, but then had better picks in the 5th (and got really good value out of them), and had a worse 7th rounder which isn't that big of a loss anyways.  At this point, we can question who they draft, but they're pretty good maneuvering across the draft board.
    • I just saw the funniest thing...or very disappointing, depending how you handle misery. A guy on YouTube did a 2027 'way too early' mock draft.  If I told you the simulator has the Panthers selecting in the top 10 , what would you say?  If I told you it was pick #8 and only two QBs were taken in the top 7, what would you say?  If I told you this dude had us taking a defensive player, what would you say?
