Charlotte could amnesty Diop tomorrow

$26 million is way to much to pay to amnesty someone.

Usually you only amnesty players for cap room and that is something the Cats don't really need right now unless they plan on acquiring Kris Humphries and need extra cash to make it happen.

Regardless, I am assuming that Stein just went through teams rosters and picked out guys who he thought would be good amnesty candidates.

Thanks for the heads up, wasn't sure if Stein just went through teams rosters and picked out players that looked like good amnesty candidates or if he actually has inside info.

Bonnell is fairly accurate, so I would say there is a 75% chance that Diop gets amnesty.

I don't think we should amnesty either one this year. We don't need the money. What we should do is wait until we need the cap room to use it. Thomas is scheduled to make 9.4 million in 2014 when we might actually have a chance at signing a good player in free agency.

So, if I understand the amnesty rules correctly, you amnesty the player, their salary comes off your cap, there is a blind auction for the player by all other teams, and the auction winner gets the player for the salary they bid and the Bobcats would have to pay him the difference on the remainder of his contract?

So Diop is owed 7.3 million for this season - I guess we will end up paying about 7.28 million, cause nobody is gonna bid jack for him.

You're correct, the only reason to amnesty Diop is to free up more cap space so that we can throw more money at Landry or Humphries; otherwise this would be a dumb move (being that he is already in the last year of his contract) when they could just use the cap space (in a pretty good free agent class) next year and not have to pay him anything.

If the Cats amnesty Diop, they will have two roster spots to fill rather than one.

      He does have speed. 21+ top end speed is very fast for a linebacker and his 3 cone drill time is considered excellent, close to elite.

      This is awesome because you get to see the perspectives of the scouts--get a glimpse behind the curtain. I wonder whose doing this was; I am curious as to why David Tepper allowed it. Maybe it was his wife. Maybe Dan.  At least from my perspective--and probably one shared by other fans--when David Tepper bought the team, he closed everything off too much to the fans, and really didn't give an explanation. Things were obviously done because he (and/or some others wanted to do it). Remember when they used the guise of construction and all that to keep fans from seeing the team during practice? I know there are laws and safety and all that, but Tepper could've made it happen. And, of course, we all know that they essentially fired Jeremy from his independent contractor gig as a photojournalist. I never understood why they'd do that (and the negative reverberations obviously affected Jeremy and ultimately this place--i.e, us fans). The pie was (and is) certainly big enough to throw some scraps to the independents. I realize that you can't necessarily open the floodgates, but a few different perspectives from indy journalists whether in word or photos is a good thing in my mind.  So, it's great to see different perspectives. I will say this however: it is not without risk, as you know there will be some buster who will be calling the scouts out if the players flop. I think we should all keep in mind that the buck stops with the GM. It's nice to have one, however, that is so convicted in his people and process--and ultimately success, that he's willing to give fans access to this type of information. Pass this on to Tepper.

      I hope he ends up being our best ever at the position. Ryan Kalil left big shoes behind that we haven't quite been able to fill since.
