Whats the problem with so much hate on Jeremy Lin ?

OFF TOPIC, but why so much hate on Jeremy Lin's contract? First Melo, second JR Smith, and now Jerry Stackhouse. WHy? Sure, the contract seems ridiculous but Lin earned every penny to that contract. This is a business league remember? And players like Melo first should know a little about a contract being ridiculous. I dont wanna say it, but this is starting to look more and more like hate on another color. If this was a African American player getting that contract, I guarantee no one would be complaining.

This was the man who avg. 14.6 ppg and 6.2 apg last season. The man who won 16 out of the 26 games he started in. The main reason why the Knicks were in the playoffs. And who made the Knicks a respectable team last year. And players like Melo, Smith and Stackhouse has a say in this? C'mon now.

I don't agree with the "hate" either, man. I might think he's being a little overpaid, but if I was in the position as these other ball players, I'd never go in public and hate on the next man getting paid.

There's been plenty of players in all 3 of the major sports who's been overpaid. It's not Jeremy Lin's fault, blame the GM. I'm glad Lin got paid.

Melo is "hating" on Lin's contract because in 20 or so games, Lin became the star of NY that Melo thought he would be when he walked in the building after the Nuggets trade. Jealousy.

The hate is because of the 3rd year poison pill. He kept saying he wanted to come back to the Knicks but signed a contract that he knew the Knicks couldn't match because of how much 14 million bucks would actually cost them that year because of the luxury tax. Lin and his agent were saying one thing and doing another.

lol, that luxury tax excuse is a pile of bullshit. First of all- you're the Knicks, you can easily afford a ~$36 million dollar contract for one season of Jeremy Lin with the marketing for the guy alone. The guys was a damn national sensation for weeks last year and really kept up his good play until his knee injury.

But aside from that, you absolutely do not have to pay the full salary for that season. Obviously, you could trade him the the 2 1/2 seasons he is under that contract, particularly in the last season of that deal when he is a huge expiring contract. Lets be honest, the problem with their salary that season is gonna be the $23 million dollars they are paying a 3 years older Amare, or Melo's $23 million, or Chandler's $16 million thats the problem, they will have to move one or more if they dont want to pay the tax.

Or they could let all those contracts expire (they all expire at the same time) and have an Heat-ish amount of cap room that off-season by just paying that big luxury tax bill (because they're the fuging Knicks and make money hand over fist). Or, if he is just terrible and you dont want to do those other things, there is actually a provision in the new CBA that lets you release a guy and spread his cap hit over multiple seasons.

So that luxury tax thing is a terrible reason for letting a young 23 year old PG who was the most exciting thing to happen to your team in years leave. But I guess the Knicks would rather have Felton

Even if the last year wasn't ridiculous, let's say the contract averaged 8 mil a year, that is ludicrous money to play a guy that started for a little more than a month in D'antoni system. Chris Duhon put up similar numbers with that coach, and he's never really been more that a 3rd or 4th guard.

Hating on Lin is silly because it's not his fault he took the best offer, but the most likely scenario is that the Rockets end up hating this contract in a couple years.

Sure Dantoni's system helped, but Lin is a much better player than Chris Duhon. Duhon was nothing more than a spot up 3 point shooter in NY, and never scored more than 11 ppg. Lin actually create off the dribble and run the offense well- the Knicks wouldnt have make the playoffs last year without him. Plus he's only 23, he still has time to grow as a player. He may be overrated at 8 mil/ year, but he certainly has more potential than Felton or anyone else the Knicks can get with their lack of cap space and tradeable assets

Lin's better than Duhon, but that's not saying much because Duhon is pretty bad. I'm just saying that D'antoni system is built to make point guards look great. Plus, it's an incredibly small sample size. I'm also pretty sure somebody said that the knicks played crazy good defensively during the winning streak, which makes sense since Stoudemire and Anthony were gone for most of it and they're bad defenders.

The knicks should have just matched the offer because they are going to be paying a ton any anyway, and it's not like saving on Lin allows them to sign another free agent. It's probably worse for the rockets that the knicks didn't sign it. They'll expect him to be a star, and he's probably not that guy.
