Williams flat out doesn't fit

I wonder if DeAngelo reads this crap? As active as he is with social media, you'd have to think he browses this forum. He is an elite running back. We played ASLEEP yesterday and our O-Line absolutely sucked balls. DeAngelo Williams is NOT the problem... the day that a 5.0 yards per carry back is a problem, Jimmy Clausen will win Super Bowl MVP.

Not knocking Williams......he has the talent to lead the league in rushing. Pretty sure he wishes Carolina lined him up and let him have a shot and running over Tampa like he historically has done.

More about what Chud is doing than anything to do with his talent.

Done with this for now.

On a day our oline couldn't run block, or pass block, Williams is being blamed, and he doesn't fit.

Glad to see ignorance still rules around here.

Williams isn't being blamed for anything.

No different than saying Greg Olsen didn't fit what Mike Martz did in Chicago. He still made plays. Just wasn't an ideal place for him.

This thread is spot on.

Williams doesn't fit into this scheme. Stewart fits perfectly (similar style to Oregon's playbook).

I can't for the life of me understand why Cam wasn't under center more yesterday handing it off to Deangelo, using play action, or bootlegging out of the pocket.

We were way too predictable out of shotgun yesterday.

You have it backwards. It isn't Williams doesn't fit the scheme, it is the scheme we ran yesterday didn't fit what Williams does nor did it fit what the defense was giving us. Big difference. Then again what we did yesterday didn't fit the offense as a whole. Chud doesn't have one scheme, he can run multiple schemes. Our issue is making them mesh which I think he will do this week.

The offense did it all year last season. RGIII did it all day long agaisnt NO. But you gotta have the RB that can take it between the tackles and force the DL out of blindly pass rushing.

But I fully agree the coaches were to blame....Williams should of fit the gameplan and we should of walked out of there with a win. if we had a Williams suited offense....I think we outscore Tampa.

Running between the tackles is one possible way to slow down the run but not the only one or even the best one. Screens and dump off passes like we did once or twice against Tampa are great. Misdirection is another way to confuse an overpursuing defense. It isn't a Williams scheme it is an offensive scheme when you have smaller quick defenders in a dime package. We could have lined it up and ran downhill with Tolbert for example lined up behind Brockel. That would have been very effective and didn't use Williams at all.

Really Greg?

I think you have two pretty good backs in Blount and Martin. But give us a 3rd rd pick for Williams (or a fourth) and we'll call it a day.

Throw in any player you have from Rutgers and I'll gladly give you a 4th rounder. We collect running backs in Tampa like the Saints** collect bounties.
