Bottom line is this is JRs team and at the end of the day if we suck its his fault. Its his fault for re-signing Marty Hurney, its his fault for holding onto Fox for 8 years, its going to be his fault if he lets Hurney continue to make ridiculous moves.

Its bad when the fans of the team have more insight than the owner with regard to the deals being signed. The majority on here knew the CJ deal was way overboard. The same can be said for the Deangelo deal, the TD deal (love TD though don't get me wrong), etc...

The one deal I didn't agree with was the Jon Beason deal. He had played up to that 50 million dollar contract. IMO he was the best ILB in the league.

It would have been different if he had signed those players to deals equaling about 60-70% of what they signed but think about the players we missed out on in FA by signing those guys to such ridiculous numbers?

Jonathan Joseph

Antonio Cromartie

Nnamdi Asomugha

Barry Coefield

Carl Nicks

Cortland Finnegan

Tracy Porter

Ben Grubbs

Add one of those corners to our defense and we are SOOO much better. Add either Nicks or Grubbs to our OL and we are probably able to actually block for more than 3 seconds. Those are just the names that I remember. Hurney is incompetent and its been pretty evident since after that 2009 season where he signed Jake Delhomme to an extension...

Houston signed both CB Johnathan Joseph and FS Danieal Manning in one offseason and went from one of the worst defenses in the league to one of the best. It would have been nice to do that instead of massively overpaying our own mediocre talent just so we can say, "oh well at least we take care of our own".

For those that don't know, the Panthers are already over the 2013 projected cap and have among the highest figures in the league for 2014 and 2015 as well.

Hurney made it so no other GM would take his job. Looks like we're stuck with him.

Even if we switch GMs, our new GM wouldn't even be able to make any moves.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
