Tony Jefferson, safety

Recommended Posts

Tony Jefferson*, S, Oklahoma Height: 5-10. Weight: 212. Projected 40 Time: 4.49. Projected Round (2013): 1. 9/15/12: Jefferson started the year strong with 10 tackles and a pass broken up against UTEP. He had one tackle against Florida A&M. Oklahoma has a bye week before a big game against Kansas State. 9/2/12: Jefferson has been a play-maker and leader of the Sooners' defense since he arrived in Norman. Jefferson was the Big XII Freshman of the Year in 2010. He started nine games and recorded 65 tackles with seven tackles for a loss, two sacks, two interceptions and seven passes broken up. Jefferson was even better last year. The sophomore had 74 tackles with four interceptions, 4.5 sacks, 7.5 tackles for a loss, three passes broken up and one forced fumble. Jefferson is an excellent pass-defender who covers a lot of ground in the deep part of the field. He does a good job of picking up receivers running deep and has the athletic ability to play man coverage on tight ends. Jefferson is solid in run support. The athletic and instinctive safety has a high ceiling and could be in store for another big season or two for the Sooners. Jefferson is a difference-maker and a regular generator of splash plays. He has added some bulk this offseason and that should appeal to NFL evaluators.

Looks like he overtook Eric Reid as the top safety of the draft, sounds like a true FS to me. Me want.

Jefferson or Lester are the two guys I'm looking at at Safety.

Fast, good cover guys who can cover a lot of distance and make plays on the ball.

The more and more I see of Reid, whom I like, the more I see box safety, and McDonald seems to be caught out of position an awful lot.

Jefferson is a great cover safety but he isn't much of a sure tackler. Not a big guy either. I haven't noticed Lester much this season but I remember liking him quite a bit more than Barron.

The guy I really want to see is Bacarri Rambo. He was looking like a flat out stud at FS. Not to mention he has a cool name.

i would rather have someone with some height to him. over 6' please.

This is the dumbest thing you've ever said.

"Hey, Hurndawg brah, it's me, Ozzie Newsome I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse."

"What is it this time Ozzie? I told you. I don't want Secondary players that can cover! Gotta get me some strong run-stuffers so I can shut down the ever increasing potency of NFL rushing attacks!!"

"Just hear me out brah, just hear me out. I'll give you Ed Reed straight up, for Sherrod Martin!"

"The heck? You kidding me dude? That midget? Martin is tall and stuff and MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL, we drafted him. Don't call back."

"hey, Mr. Richardson, I did what you asked me to. Now please get the Browns on the line and ask them what it'd take to get Richardson off their hands. I'm gonna make me a sammich and being working up long term contract negotiations with Kenny Onatolu"

if that's the dumbest thing i've ever said i'm impressed. thought it would have been worse than that.

sure...the ONLY thing i want is a guy that is tall. doesn't matter if he can cover, tackle, catch, crap...i don't care if he sucks as long as he is tall.

if THAT is what you got from my post then you are far more ignorant than anyone could have ever have imagined.

who wouldn't want someone that had actual skills and talent? that stuff is a given, or it should be for anyone who doesn't need corks on their forks.

Except your previous post contradicted everything you put in this post. You dismissed the player brought forth in the OP because he was under 6 feet, and didn't care to consider his talent or any of the things you mentioned just now.

None of our safeties can tackle a downhill running back. Absolutely zero of them. Which is why I said I want a safety that's a better tackler than ballhawk.

That is a dumb, Hurneyesque move in the modern NFL. It is 2012 and the days of gearing to stop the run and control the clock are over and the Safety position is seeing its value skyrocket and a premium on talented Safeties are being demanded because of it.

Cool maybe i'm next in line for the job then. I for one am tired of bitching about godfrey and whoever else being run over by any back that weighs over 190. Safeties covering jobs are not as complicated as corner covering jobs. Which is why I said what I said. I would take a washed up minter over the baby back bullshit we have right now.

    • I truly do not understand why we rushed him back last season, we were a bad team with an already productive back in Chuba. Brooks looked like he was 60% back and clearly hadn’t regained full movement in his knee and confidence, no surprise he got reinjured. Shame on this training staff, look no further then Chuba returning too soon this season, I don’t care how bad a player wants to come back a training staff is there to protect them. Brooks is a great person and was an amazing player prior to both injuries, I hope he’s recovering well.
    • Brother thanks for sharing and all. Just for a 21 year army guy you sure over used your brain power on this interaction little too much...  Not that's Im taking a side or nothing, Ive never been a bully fan * in extreme deals bullying in needed..... I've heard from smart people in and around Panthers, Smitty needed Angie for guidance BADLY.  I've honestly thought if Smitty was born 20 years later, he should have taken a MMA path and not only would he have been a champion but a humbled good man with or without Angie helping him. He has never took off the enmoureous chip on his shoulder and it has branched off as a stick in arse over time too. Still everyone can not be or act the same with emotions, we are chemical sacks of water and bones. He reminds me of brain-washed individuals that can not turn off the switch. Plus he is high on thinking he's smarting than he is.......its a dangerous combo, but that's mainly what gave him the edge in life to live out the American dream......soooo I dare say change, but its sad at the same time. All those poor women that get involved with narcissistic disloyal men, one of the few times I agree to take what ever form them in court...
    • Completely agreed.  TBH, we have had so many great players that are in my favorite list, and I hate to narrow it down to one, but Cam is it.  Which is crazy, because you would think it would be more of the guys I grew up watching, but no.  Cam was the single most impactful player to ever out on a football uniform imo.  And like I said in an earlier post, I always felt a kinship with him in a lot of ways…  the way he was treated and judged for the off the field stuff in Florida and having to overcome all of that and fight show at back.  And although I am not a black man, I have always been welcomed by and accepted more by minorities, and thus, I know what it’s like to be judged by appearances rather than the content of your character and who you actually are.  I know what it’s like to be stereotyped and written off or mistreated for your mistakes.  I know what it’s like to be held to a different standard while your peers don’t have to meet that same standard.  So I always related to that.  And the way he came in and just electrified the whole franchise, man…  I still think about it often how much it sucks that because of how talented he was, our staff out so much on him and that ultimately cut his career short.  You’re right, there will never be another Cam…  I think Josh Allen is the closest thing we will see for a long time, but Allen is not the running threat Cam was.  Cam could run you over or around you.  That was THE absolute funnest time to watch our team ever.
