Cam: an option QB

I have no idea what you're talking about we run pass plays like everyone else. It's just that our recievers don't get open much. Especially Lafell since Steve is usually doubled.

Lafell is junk.

But Cam will be much more deadly as a drop back QB. Like i commented above, dropping Cam back will force defenses to drop back in coverage. Cam will have the abilities to choose to throw or run. With defenses staying honest to Cam's arm strength they'll drop back and Cam will have more room to run if he chooses.

Cam will not win a Super Bowl by playing in a college options system.

They did last year. Not really this year.

I believe Cam can be a more efficient QB if we uses him like a natural QB.

Remember Vick back in Atl. Defenses had a hard time containing Vick bc he was so deadly coming off play action and bootlegs.

I guess I just disagree with you. Against Tampa we barely ran any read option and against the Giants our problems were penalties, turnovers, and sacks. People don't seem to realize that we had zero three and outs against the Giants. Just very bad and untimely mistakes.

You telling me we barely ran any options vs TB?

We loss bc Chud got to trickery with those options. Go back and watch the game.

Well, I am not the coach but I think the main reason we are running the read option is because teams seem to have a hard time stopping it.

We are 11th this year and were 3rd last year when in a pro system so I dont get your point.

I hate the option because it slows down the RB and the overall play development

Our running game would be much better if we just run straight down the opponent's throat other than trying to fake it and then give it off to them.

Defenses will be honest with Cam dropping back and they'll have to stay in coverage. No teams would want to blitz with Cam scanning the D. Teams will even have to spy a player on Cam like how we used to do Vick with Thomas Davis.

We had only 11 run plays the entire game and I think only 8 were read option plays.

-OC Rob Chudzinski called 38 passes (78%) and 11 runs (22%)

That touchdown to Olsen was a typical drop back, still not understanding your point.

You also prove my point. The td came from a drop back.

You tell me that Cam wouldnt be better as a drop back passer. Defense coordinators will have to stay honest bc Cam is such a great passer. DC will give more rooms for Cam to run like crazy (Vick Atl) or have to Spy a Lb or safety on Cam which will give more one on one for Smith, Olsen or etc.

after watching the game yesterday one thing i took from it was this.this team cannot run the ball out of pro sets or i formation that well, because the OL does not get a push or open up any holes in those formations. which than causes us to lean heavy on the option read aspect just to open up some running lanes because teams have to defend not only the RB, but the QB as well.

We did much better with play calling against the Falcons. We weren't running the option as our base formation which was what I wanted to see. I have no problem running the option so long as it's not our base set. The option is a good play with the talent that we have, but we can't run our offense THROUGH the option, we have to just use the option as a piece of our offense - which is what we saw this week.

Yes exactly. I don't mind the options here and there. It will gives defenses trouble. Chud needs to use it wisely like a wildcat only. We can't play the options like how Miami played the wildcat with Williams and Brown.

I want Cam to be a drop back QB 80% of the times. Mix in the play action fakes, bootlegs and options.

I'm not understanding how the option has any effect on Cam reading defenses on pass plays. Wtf are you talking about?

It's not just you. I don't get it either.

It's taking time away from Cam finding his receivers. Drop him back and let him get rid of the ball in 3 sec. Instead of trying to fake it the whole time.

Cam cannot scan the field when he is doing a 5 or 7 step drop. It's not like the defenders stand still until he's completed his drop back, so having him in the gun gives him more time, not less. And we still can run play action from the gun, just the mechanics of the fake are a bit different.

We can do both, under center I formation runs and play actions, and passing and RO out of the gun.
