What would this place look like if we went for it on 4th and 1?

And got stuffed. Giving ATL the ball on our side of the side of the field with 1:40 left, to either run clock and kick a FG or even score a TD.

It was tough to go out with the hail mary pass but we really made the right call IMO. And how about the punt by Nortman and effort by Pilares?

What are your thoughts on this?

Like people said at least we would've lost playing to win. It was a terrible call, lol we had Gamble blitzing the final play. Cam is 6'5 250 we have THREE other capable backs who could've gotten a yard.

This defense is incapable of any trust at all, it has failed us time and time again. When will Rivera learn?

Our offense IS the strength of this team time for him to realize that. And his d-coordinator is putting his job in jeopardy.

I don't know how Sean McD let that happen, but my point is that all the talk about Rivera not being a good coach, I think it was a good move and a great special teams play.

The way we were getting after Matty alI day, I didn't think there was anyway he would lead them down field.

I guess ATL just wanted it more.

And I said why trust this defense when it's failed us over and over? All these other coaches/analysts saying they would have punted but how many of them had 6'5 250 QB and three capable backs? You think Cam wasn't gonna get that ONE yard after he fuged up the first time?

Yeah but that one play would have been the game if we got stuffed. This isn't Madden it's a game of field position.

We had to be rolling on cylinders to win that game, offense, defense and special teams. Rivera had confidence that we could pin them, and then continue to get after Matty and shutdown Julio like we had been all day. Sean picked the D for that play outta the end zone and it was stupid not to blanket the only receiver that had been hurting us deep all day (White).

That's not the topic though. It's how would have everyone reacted if we got STUFFED on that play and it was gameover, instead of giving our defense/special teams a chance,

I call BS on anybody who says they wouldn't have lost their poo if we had went for it and got stuffed. I mean, poo, we had the absolute BEST punt possible and were in the most advantageous position to be in (other than possessing the ball) and people bitched immediately. I wanted to go for it, but after being around football for as long as I have, I understood the call to punt. What more can you ask as far as that decision is concerned? Sucks that Nakamura can't do his goddamn job, but the call itself is what the VAST majority of NFL head coaches (and I'd argue college coaches as well) would have done. Were we 10 yards more up field, then you obviously go for it, since you're in "no-man's-land". As it was, we were far too close to the 50 to do that.

Had we gone for it and made it, the praise of Rivera would have been abundant. Had we gone for it and got stuffed, the calling of Rivera's head would still be there as it is now.

I haven't questioned his call on the 4th and 1 once. Not in the chat, not in comments later. There were arguments to be made both ways, and it was not the no-brainer some have made it out to be.

Having said that, I have lost a lot of confidence in Rivera after watching how we handled the 1st half two-minute drill. So yes, I'm pissed at Ron, but not because of the 4th and 1.

Trust me, I want wins too. I'm sick of losing.

But this is a great example of a solid coaching decision in crunch time, the other team just wanted it more than us.

Simple, they would have bitched and said Rivera should have punted. Me personally, I agree with the call to punt. Because if we got stuffed on 4th down, it would have been much easier for them to go 20 yards and kick a field goal as opposed to going 50 or more, in this case, it was 70 yards. Nakamura sucked it up though. How Roddy got behind both him and Norman is beyond me. They should have known a play like that was coming.
