Brandon Beane, the team's director of football operations, will handle day-to-day football matters until a new GM is hired, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the move has not been announced.

Isn't that Rob Rogers area?

no....well, kind of.

rogers might be the one that rivera goes to for input, but the way it sounded was that all personnel decisions come through rivera and are essentially his.

the way i understood rivera when he was talking about his additional roles was that he was pretty much taking hurney's responsibilities in personnel decisions. he keeps the guys he wants to keep. he adds the guys he wants to add. all within cap limits this season, i suppose.

one thing that was interesting in his presser yesterday was that he said "as always, any decisions dealing with major players will go to richardson for his approval." (not an exact quote, but pretty close) which implied richardson's input on personnel matters was limited to big name/big $$ players which had to get his ok. beyond that it was other people's business to take care of.
