Cam Newton needs real competition.

WTF??? he has the towel on his head and sits on the sidelines win or lose? get off the media nuts bro. How do you know what kind of leader he is? only the players and coaches know. Cam doesnt call the plays and I think it took a LEADER to tell the media that he isnt buying into the play calling of 10 runs a game. eat a fat greasy D!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what kind of Leader he is.....but Smitty does and that's why he chewed him out. I trust Smitty over Cam.

You can always spot the guys whose college team's asses Cam administered a beating.

He did administer a beating too us. Which is why when we drafted I was really excited because I thought he'd be doing that for one of my teams now. I didn't hate drafting him because he beat us, actually the reverse.

It is one thing to be frustrated with Cam's play so far this year. It is yet another to actually want to waste valuable resources on "Competition".

This team needs upgrades at multiple positions. Wasting resources needed to fill these holes on competition for a second year talent is just silly.

Think before you post. That way your arguement may not seem so lame.

Why the quotation marks around the word competition? We didn't waste any time provide Clausen with some competition did we? Why does this apply to Cam and not to him?

Why waste a draft pick on a qb? I would love to have Geno in here but its not going to happen. Cam does need to grow up DA should be giving Cam all support and wisedom he has. If he isn't then bring in a veteran to show Cam how to lead. Cam needs to man up and start being a leader. That doesn't mean having press conferences. It showing it on the field and sideline.

LOL at a franchise QB needing competition. If winning is not enough to push him then he will be out of the league in a few years, but Cam does not need competition. You give him 4 years minimum then determine if you need to go another direction at that time or bring someone else in.

I'm in no way advocating Clausen here. I don't think he's the guy. But he didn't get that benefit that you're speaking about. So why does Cam and not him?

Cam was drafted as the #1 pick because he has the tools to be the franchise QB with a high ceiling... Jimmy was a 2nd round pick and a project/potential franchise Qb.... Jimmy does not get the same benefit because he does not have the same upside... when you are the #1 pick at QB you are the day 1 franchise QB period... for better or worst.

Just my opinion.

And he has been....and he's getting two years to be the unquestioned guy. But let's say the Panthers don't win another game.....or finish 3-13.....you don't seriously think about bringing in a guy to compete? Not replace...not cut CN.......compete with him at the very least?

I haven't read a single post in this thread, but I will say this.

I don't think Cam needs "competition". He needs a coach that is going to challenge him every single day. A coach that is going to tell him "this is your goal for today's practice. Improve on this. If you fail, you do extra conditioning" or something along those lines. He fails to reach too many goals, then you start giving a few extra snaps to the backup. Cam is never going to lose the job unless he just implodes. He's not playing that bad this season. Last week, he did a LOT better about not sitting in the pocket all day. He reverted back to last season: 3-4 seconds, nobody there, get what I can with my legs. Pocket collapsing? Try to escape and just run. That being said, there were a couple of times where he had NO time for the play to develop. That isn't on him.

Cam is fine. He has some things he can iron out, like any young QB. He still has bad tendencies, like not setting his feet when he does indeed have time. Or not looking off defenders. But those issues are minor compared to the OL issues and the playcalling.

In my opinion no... You do the Same as the Rams are doing with Bradford... you give him more time and focus on improving the other positions on the team.

Bradford went to the Playoffs though.

Bradford has not gone to the playoffs... Also after his rookie MVP year he followed it up going 1-9 the following year, yet they did not take a QB in the draft this year and are still working with him. You have to give your young QB time to develop before calling it quits or using your limited resources to bring in competition to add more question marks at the position.

I understand those wanting to have competition at the QB position because Cam may not be having the season we all expected, but I personally 100% disagree with the idea.

    • PFF feeds the beast.  So it’s largely popular for that IMO and is embraced by the NFL machine because it helps feed the beast.  Thats why you see the cute stats pop on the Monday Night football screen lol.  Hot takes? Fantasy football? Yeah, it’s good for the NFL machine for lots of reason.  I do think the league embraces them.  Not because they are actually good at doing what they claim. actual analytics folks are critical of PFF.  Because it’s not analytics.  It’s subjective goobly goo ratings by dudes that aren’t really qualified nor even have the info to do real grading.  you got legit NFL players who say they have literally put PFF grades by the coaches grades and they are worlds apart.  Players have laughed at them pretending they can grade certain plays without the underlining info.  NFL coaches have called out there bologna at pressers.   could it be a quick tool to find out some info that has nothing to with their subjective grades? Sure.  There is a lot of data on 32 teams for cheap. But I do not buy the narrative 32 NFL teams think their grades are worth a poo or remotely accurate or meaningful.
    • Bills D looks like ass
    • I think that win vs Dallas gave them a big boost of confidence.  Thats a team that blew us out the past 2 seasons. Even when Bryce was playing okay late last season they still beat us pretty bad.  Lets see if we slaughter the Jets or go back to playing sloppy uninspired football and go from there.
