Jaws recognizes how bad our playcalling is...

While he didn't go far enough by any means, I did recognize a few changes this week by Chud. There was a greater reliance on short throws and YAC, and Cam was generally accurate on those shorter throws. If we continue to work on this it will help tremendously and eventually open up the deep routes again.

Now, about that running game...

some passing routes were shorter and quicker and for the most part Cam got the ball out. Moose even said this, that Chud was calling some plays that got the ball out of Cams hand quicker and it seemed to work. but sending the FB up the seem is just dumb. so is running the option 15x a game. and LaFell seems to have better chemistry with our QB as well.

Options work against undisciplined DL's - they work against players that are "all about me". Now in HS, there are lots of those - less in college - and very few in the NFL. Remember, the 32 NFL teams should have the cream of the crop.

The death of the option is a DE that goes upfield and sets the corner - everytime. DE's that punish the QB (like he should on the pitch) can destroy an offense - no matter who your QB is, he will not take many poundings from a DE before he's ready to pitch early or he's on the sideline hurt.

If it was a great offense, all NFL teams would run it.

So, if things are gonna change like Rivera says - then the change has to come from the offensive side of the ball to have much effect on this season.

Chud is good but the only reason they put in the read option was because of the lockout last year. Shortened training camp means we had to make plays cam could really do well with and we made the playbook suitable for Cam. This year and a full training camp teams figured how to defend it and shut it down. Chud should have changed the playbook and used the read option as a audible if the defense was set to where it would succeed. They need to go back to I formation and Singleback formations. Jaws is right. Read Option has plagued Dwills ability to cut back and made him a one dimensional back.

That is all fine except for one thing.

We did not fuging run the read option as our primary offense last season. We ran it a couple times a game. We were a play action passing team last year. Chud changed it it and went to the read option thus year.

I swear the quality of members on this board just keeps getting worse by the day.

At least have a clue what you are talking about before you post.

Thank you, reading some of this crap makes my brain hurt.

Anyways. Look back at last season and then back to chud in 07 in Cleveland and then again when he was successful with the O in San Diego. It was always with a very good run game and an offense based on that Lewis and then Sproles/Matthews set those offenses up and it was working for us last season.

IMO chud is trying to force BIG gains with the option rather then the effective 4.0 ypc steady run game, get back to it and let Can and crew make things happen.

^^^ This

The only game the readtard option worked on was the Saints game. And their D is rather poo poo. And chances are, if Payton is still on the sidelines it doesn't work that game either

    • Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season
    • I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.
    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
