Eleven Men on the Field

This isn't a post to defend Cam Newton.....completely because he isn't a perfect qb nor is he a finished product by any means. He is a second year qb with a lot to learn. Every young qb goes throwing growing pains but lets take a look at the numbers. Through six games last year newton was 134-229 for 1847 yds 7td and 9int. This year? 101-170 1387 yds 5td and 6int. With three of those coming in one game. So you could call it a slump, you can blame the play calling, the offensive line, the running backs, heck you can even blame rg3 for what he's doing in Washington. Last year we heard numerous times Rivera saying that the team needs to get on Newton's level of play, that if the rest of the team were on par with Newton we would be a much better football team. I think that speaks volumes of this year because who around him has stepped up? The running game hasn't been able to get it going, Shockey, a Newton safety blanket last year and a hell of a blocker is no longer here. Lafell came off the bench last year and as a starter this year he has been taken out of games. Cam is learning and he will eventually figure it out but this team hasn't made it easy on him. There are eleven men on the field and one man can't do it alone nor should he be asked to at this early in his career

I agree to an extent. The only problem I have with Cam is that he hasn't shown me he can "shake off" the bad things. When things go bad, he looks like someone stole his lunch money. I realize he's young, but as the face of the franchise, he has to show a little maturity when dealing with the media and while on the sideline.

Cam just needs a shorter memory. Own his own mistakes but not dwell on those or others. To me it's like the guy on the court who has to throw the ball against the wall after losing or making a bad play. Like somehow being extra demonstrative takes it away. Kinda false humility in some ways.

Just roll with the punches and stay hungry but focus on the next play.

Your right he has done that at times but that's part of maturing as a qb you need to have a short memory. In the Dallas game I think he responded nicely, but had some drop balls and bogus calls in the end. That could have very well been Cam's first comeback victory. That very same pass interference play went against us in ATL with captain on Julio jones. If they don't get that call just as we didn't things could be a lot different

Maybe RG3 stole all of Cam's powers and when we face them this year, in order to regain his powers Cam must win.

I tell ya, I can't take it anymore.

Cam is fine, he responds every game. The lack of production in the running game makes it near impossible to win in this offensive scheme. It's a testament to Cam's abilities that we're even in games at all. That and the defense has improved significantly the last couple of games.

If this team gets back to a traditional offense, Cam will get back on track and the Panthers will go on a win streak - regardless of who they're playing.

RG3 is not perfect. He makes a ton of mistakes and bad decisions - at least as many as Cam. The Shanahans have really taken care of him this year. They begin games with quick passes only that allow him to get into a rhythm. They're usually a one read play where he throws it to a WR or TE breaking open over the middle - quick timing routes. The other WRs usually aren't even looking for the ball as they're busy picking other defenders. And they run the ball - alot with Alfred Morris. RG3 is not the primary runner on that team, and defenses know it.

That's the difference with the panthers and the redskins. They run a team offense. We run a Cam offense. Everything goes through him when it shouldn't. We have 3 RBs to take pressure off him...but we don't

This will all change once Chud and Rivera are fired...and honestly I'm excited about the new direction we will be heading...it certainly can't be much worse than it is right now...right?
