Which of these players should be cut if unwilling to restructure?

A couple of clarifications:

The amount in parenthesis does not equal guaranteed money. DWill, for example, has no guaranteed money for next year (other than his salary if on the roster for game 1). The $3.2 you list is each year's proration of the original signing bonus. That money has already been paid, it just hasn't been assigned to the cap yet.

In TD's case, the $1.66 listed is a roster bonus to the best of my knowledge and is likely not guaranteed. We are on the hook for the original $7 million signing bonus, but not those in the future. If I'm wrong and you have additional details, please let me know as I like to keep up with this stuff (at least as much as possible without paying for premium service).

I am just relaying the info as I understand it best. I don't claim to be an expert on this, nor does anyone for that matter but I got all my info from the site I listed above. So I personally don't know enough to confirm or correct you on the matter of TD's contract.

Back to the topic at hand, I went back and used that website to compare average salaries by position and was sickened to see CJ is the 4th highest paid DE out there. It's water under the bridge at this point and our next GM will hopefully surround him with better talent to help him try and live up to his contract.

At this point I am liking everything I hear about that Star Lotuleli DT from Utah. Sounds like he would be a nice addition to put next to CJ on the line. The best free agent DT I could find on that website was Henry Melton of Chicago.

Whoa, who are we going to get to replace some of these players? Edwards has been productive and has done a better job than Fua. He's playing for the league min, so really he should stay for the remainder of his contract.

Gamble, Gross, Smith, Beason should ALL restructure their contracts. Actually some of them already have last year. Olsen did, Gross did, smith did. There's only so much restructuring they can handle.

CJ and Godfrey need to start playing better or get the fug out of the team.

Looks like we are seriously going to build through the draft from now on. I hope so because this is ridiculous.

Think CJ is bad? Go look at how Dwan Edwards' salary stacks up with other DT's. Now I know why no one was talking about what he cost...he has the 9th highest base salary for DT's. That's right, Dwan is paid more than guys like Mebane and just $400,000 less per year than Vince Wilfork.

Buffalo cut him because he was not living up to his contract, so what did we do? Pay him more than he got there. That just boggles my mind.

there's a huge difference between a restructure that simply pushes cap hits into the future (this actually benefits the player in every way) and taking a pay cut.

    • If we don't go OT, we will regret it.  What bothers me?  Are we going to get a starting-caliber OT at 19?  I think the draft is solid at OT, and the more I read up and watch video, the more I watch Lomu, the more I want him.   I see Freeling as a RT who needs some work in run blocking (since we need to run first, maybe not a good fit) and I see Proctor ending up as a Guard.  After Lomu (assuming Mouigia and fanu are gone), I think we wait until round 2.  In round 2, there are about 3-4 I like (Zuhn--good pass blocker and VERY underrated right now; Tiernan is a very good pass blocker as is Miller from Clemson, but both are not good in the run game.  Max Ixxxxx from Ariz St is impressive too---technically, there is not a of difference in these second tier guys--good in pass pro, need work in the run game.   If we wait until round 2 for an OT, we probably need to sign Nijman and start him early.   I almost think this is what we should do if Lomu is gone.  There is a big dropoff after him, imo, and I think we'd get better value if a stud ILB or edge is there.  Someone like TJ Parker Clemson makes sense. If Lomu is gone, trading back might be the play.
    • And what is x gunna help with except show him what not to do. Plus for the first year and a half he was just an obstacle
    • I understand that some people want WR. I am solidly against using yet another high pick there. Coker is pretty good and we used No picks on him.  What I think we really need at WR is a little bit of a Smitty lite. It is ridiculous to say let’s get a Smitty because you just can’t do that, but someone not tall and long striding but more in his mold. I think we’d have a pretty well rounded group.    Looking at tackle, with replacing Moton looming, it just seems like the no brainer.  You fill in Icky short term. Depending on how he recovers, and how the new guy plays, you go from there. A tackle at 19 is most likely either a LOT, a ROT, or a big talented guard, at worst. We will need all three in the next couple of years.  I would love to have a stud ILB be there at 19 but the OL is the responsible thing to do I believe.
