the question i have, is if by chance we are #1 in sacks, and we stay there.. and we have a solid lb core.. then can we focus ALLLLLLLLL of our efforts on upgrading the secondary? or should we go with o line, and try to pick up a good free agent or 3rd round cb/safety

sorry about that guys, my phone posted before i was done

No, the only spot in the secondary that really commands attention is the FS spot, IMO. Plus, Ron is old, Fua sucks and a guy like Star will probably be available so I think you have to take him, or someone like him. Games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage.

I want DT in the first, FS/WR in the second and FS/WR in the third and I do think we'll obtain a 3rd.

For what it's worth. We are 20th in the league in rushing yards allowed per game, yet 13th in passing. Our secondary isn't nearly as bad as people want to believe, and it's actually getting better as the season has progressed. By the same token, our run D has VASTLY improved over the last four games, since Keek took over the middle.

My point is, that our defense is fairly solid and is relatively young, so the smart move would be to begin to replace your oldest parts. Those would be DT and one CB.

i honesly think were going to be getting rid of 34 or 28. (not that i want to) and we will have an extra pick early, or a substantial trade. but yes i agree. it starts in the trenches, and if you look at history, all the dynastys control of the line of scrimmage.

I agree, but I think we're good at CB as far as spending a high pick on a replacement. The Josh's are playing well, Captain is a great fit at nickel and on ST's and Gamble isn't THAT old. However, Nakamura just sucks despite his tenure in the league. Martin could be awesome if he had the grey matter to go with his athleticism.

There are also a number of good FS options to choose from in the second day range.

our secondary is HORRIBLE. i think what your forgetting is that the pressure up front is what is helping the pass d. norman has GREAT upside, but munnerlyn is blah. i agree with you though. DT/CB is the right course of action. we are going to have to get some free agent talent on this team though. we need talent NOW before some key players are to old.

I disagree, several sacks from the last two games have come as a result of the coverage on the field. Our secondary is well ahead of where I expected it to be, especially without Gamble and starting a 5th round rookie.

were also 23rd in int's. we are doing well for what we have i think. an improvement at dt or cb/fs would both help the pass game. but really.. im kinda tired of the "miraculous catches" that keep happening on our corners. eh.. it doesnt matter.. i think we upgrade dt, FS , and add O talent next season and we win games with points not defense. jmo.

    • Not sure why everyone keeps talking about the Panthers paying him $50M/year. I don't recall anyone EVER saying he deserves that. I think something like what the Dolphins signed Malik Willis to would be good: 3 years, $67.5M but it will probably be something along the lines of Mayfield or Darnold which is around $35M/year.
    • Actually that 4400 was based on a 16 game season to match Bryce's 16 games this year. Your offense has to be to drive the ball when it matters. Bryce doesn't do that with any level of consistency. If you're building a team that isn't focused on your QB, then fine. Then there's no need to pay Bryce as a franchise QB because literally anyone else will do. If you're going to pay him 50m plus per season, you have to be able to put the team on his shoulders and know he's going to carry the load. So far, when the pressure is on to get it done, Bryce has fallen miserably short of the target. 4-6 to finish out the season and 0-2 when all we need is a win to secure a playoff spot isn't stepping up and proving yourself as a franchise QB. I'd say it's quite the opposite.  There isn't a single coach in this league that would take Bryce over Burrow and very few if any that would take Bryce over Prescott. Hurts didn't have to throw in 2025 because Philly's defense was disgusting and Saquan had a MVP season. But then again, Hurts has shown that he can when it counts, and then there's his signature. Philly runs the tush push to lethal perfection, but that's a play we can't even consider with Bryce. You used 3 QBs from teams that had no defense to show QB stats don't always matter. When we had the worst defense in the NFL, we didn't see Bryce step up and carry the offense and put up gaudy numbers in a losing season because we were playing catch up. It was pretty much the opposite.  What have we seen from Bryce consistently to consider offering him a top 10 NFL franchise QB level contract? At the end of the day, that's all that matters.
    • I mean, what fanbase has high expectations when you have a QB like Bryce leading your team?
