A comparison between two zone read QB's on 3rd down: Newton vs. Tebow

Cam Newton 2012 3rd down completion percentage: 46.8 %

The Golden Calf of Bristol 2011 3rd down completion percentage: 45.9 %

Both played in the dreaded zone read.

After the majority of you clean up your soiled underpants...you are welcome to hurl your insults and accusations and excuses...

A shout out to the SANE members of this forum: I am not saying that The Golden Calf of Bristol is as good as Newton. The Golden Calf of Bristol probably does not even belong in the NFL...

I am simply pointing out how atrocious Carolina has been in obvious passing situations this season...

The problem is that we are too predictable and not as talented as people think at the skill positions. Only WR that gets separation is Smith, who hasnt played up to his standard this year (being honest), and we dont run smart route combos on 3rd down (look at the tape). None of these threads existed last year as we had a better offense and the chains were moving. Why wasnt this being said then if Newton is that flawed? Where were these metrics that I'm seeing all over these boards now? Now that we're playing bad (not just Newton, but the entire offense), you want to blame the QB (which is understandable but has gotten to absurd levels now), when its not his fault that Chud forgot how to call plays that put players in the best position to succeed. Yes Newton has struggled this year, its well documented. But if you change all that we did successfully last year, pull the rug and do something different this year that obviously isnt working, and refuse to change, then what more do you expect?

PS I didnt want Cam as our draft pick, I wanted Gabbert...but after what I saw last year, the talent and the acumen is there, its a matter of putting it together consistently year in and year out so that we are successful in the long term.

What's the matter? Your other thread didn't go as well as expected so you thought you would start another? What a shock that people didn't buy your argument Cam was one of the least pressured QB's in the league.

How long are you going to keep this up? You don't like Newton. Fine. We get it. Now, tell us what the team should do. Bench him? Trade him? And then what?

To just keep throwing stats out here on a daily basis requiring no thought or analysis adds nothing to the conversation about the team. Give us alternatives and solutions.

Everyone has a right to an opinion, but the people who dont like Cam need to realize one thing. Hes still learning. He made PRO BOWL last year. Hes got all the talent in the world. Im just as disappointed in Cam as the next guy but hes our QB and i love it.

i love these one trick pony posters in here.

i like how with the return of PFFL we've now got two posters with differing views on the one stat that "tells you everything you need to know" about a quarterback.

it's like the huddle has two theoretical football physicists trying to hammer out the grand unified theory of bullshit.

you know that's what TRD was....he was the matt moore one trick pony. everything was about getting his boy that he had under center and trashing jimmy "the debil" clausen who it seemed like he had a personal grudge against since high school or something.

every thread, regardless of what was really being discussed, he found a way to spin it to clausen hate or moore lovin. i called him out on it, just like others did, and he always had to say he didn't care what anyone thought but then he'd try to start some thread that wasn't about it to show there was more to him, but he always slipped back.

just like pfft did (has he been re-bant yet?) with that yppc crap. every thread, regardless of what was being discussed, he had to spin to that drivel into.

now these bozos lately...the ONLY thing they post about is either cam is the problem or cam is god. the more recent clowns are the "cam is the root of the problem" crowd. there is no other topic in their minds and good luck finding them post about anything else.

and yes...there is more to talk about.

Yeah, he made the Pro Bowl. Apparently he outperformed Matthew Stafford last season...

Does anyone understand that you have to build the Offense to your QB's skill sets and strenghts. You cant just throw a QB into a offense and say this is how your going to do it.

The New England Patriots have been good on offense for the past what 10 years. Not only because of Brady, but because the coach understands and picks players that fit into his system. Thats what makes you a good team, coach, offense.

Saying that CAM is a running QB not a pocket passer. He uses his athletic abilities to extend plays and make things happen. Im fine with that, its about winning not stats. Stop trying to make him awhat he is not a pocket passer!
