Say what you want about the defence

I would rather have an offense that puts up ten yards in the 1st quarter than a defense that gives up 14 points in less than 6 minutes... not to mention against a team with no timeouts

Since the Atlanta game our offense has generated:

12 against Seattle

14 against Dallas

22 against Chicago

21 against Washington

14 against Denver

14 against Tampa

If you we're to think rationally, how often would a team generating that amount of points from offense win? The only games which I would expect a chance to win would be Chicago and Washington and we went 1-1 in those two games. Over the last 6 games we have averaged a shade over 16 points on offense.

Name one defence that can win you games with that kind of offensive production...?

the fact of the matter is we were in a position to win the game, and the defense didnt hold up. they score a touchdown with no timeouts, ok cool they still need a 2 pt conversion. Ok, two point conversion, its tied but at least we have overtime. Nope, they march right down the field and score a touchdown. thats back to back to back situations in which the defense failed, we had an 11 point lead with 6 minutes left. Name one defense that lets that happen?

It's much more common to see a team with momentum moving the ball easily against a tired defence. Add in a couple of questionable calls and let's be honest great plays on 4th down by them and the final drive in regular time wasn't as bad as people make out. It sucked and we should expect our defence to hold in those types of situations, but I am much more frustrated with our offense.

However, this thread is about how our offense is asking too much from a defence that has a lot of young and average players playing on it. This defence has kept the offense in games week in and week out, but the offence can't move the chains consistently.

Blah blah blah blah. You were in a position to win that game and 29 of 32 teams in the NFL DO win that game. Your D choked. Point blank period. The offense's job is to put up more points than the opposing offense, not some arbitrary number that would make you sleep better at night. They did their job, the last time the offense touched the ball the team was up 8. Yet you end up losing by 6. "Say what you want about the Defense"? Well I will, they lost you this game.

Last year you could make this exact same post about our defense and most of the chuckleheads would say, "Yeah but that doesn't matter because it is all about the fourth quarter when it is "clutch time". Now that Cam and the offense has struggled some it is the opposite.

BTW Baltimore won last night while scoring 13 points.

The loss is on both sides. It's a team game. How many games have we had where a drive by the offense would have sealed the win? The defense obviously could have stopped them too but the issues are not all on one side.

Yea our whole team changes midway through the 4th quarter. The offense makes negative plays and look lethargic the defense goes as soft as a peni$ in Rosanne Barr's hands.

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
