Bigger Problem: Offense or Defense?

points per game made 2011: 25.4 (7th in the league, btw.)

points allowed per game 2011: 26.8 (28th in the league)

points made per game 2012: 18.4 (22nd in league)

points allowed per game 2012: 24.3 (19th in league...not great but still better than last year)

not at all the best way of looking at the big picture, but still tells the same story. you put last year's offense with this year's defense and we win more games.

true, the defense chokes this year just like last year, but the offense has given this team no chance to win in most games.

the defense took solid strides forward. the offense fell into the crapper.

The defense went from utter trash to mediocre. Our team concept is still the same, we win off our offense, not our defense. Atlanta won Sunday with their offense turning the ball over 6 times. We dont have a defense that good or that tough. PERIOD. Our defense playing at their best still needs our offense to carry them. All it takes is one pick, one fumble, and the guys on defense are gonna give up. We've seen it, time and time again. Even with a lead, they give up! If we held them to a higher standard and not lowered it because we want to be the "poor man's Steelers" and want to feel like our D is badass, they would do better.

Whole board? Skim through the thread G, no one is with you.

Facts have been presented and my page 2 question is still there for ya.

We know what you are about, so we know you don't let facts get in the way of your agenda.

he will never answer any question that takes even minimal thought, he doesnt have the brain capacity to do so. he doesnt even know what year it is, and he hasnt even watched a panthers game this season. one troll is screwing this whole thread up.

Here is the LMAO part...

Josh Freeman 2,500 yards 25 TDs 7 INTs

Cam Newton 2,400 yards 9 TDs 10 INTs

I think we're calling the wrong dood superman.

Freeman is having a great year. And he had a great 2nd year. I think he proved this year, our defense has no answer for him at the end of games. He carved us up good in a minute.

Nobody on this board trusts our defense at the end of games.

Our webmaster who for weeks along with his alts has sung their praises even made a thread about how he knew they would choke on Sunday. He's also absent from this thread. You guys keep up the good fight. Just know at the end of games, most of us want to go for 4th downs because we know our scrubs on defense will help the other teams QB more than our own. This D couldnt stop Josh Freeman with 50 seconds left down 8. LMAO.

here's an easy one for you king troll. can you just type in one line, the name of this thread?

then, can you find one post in this thread claiming the defense is good or even average?

come on king blackness, surprise the hell out of me.

I think their defense proved all game that our offense had no answer for them.

Same for the first game where we racked up a *SUPER* amount of 10 points.

I wish that offense would have an answer for their defense.

he obviously thinks that people see the obvious, which is the offense is struggling, and because of his major insecurity issues, he believes everyone is trashing Cam Newton. And we just can't have that. This is wrong, he has also proved numerous times his reading comprehension skills suggest he may still be in elementary school.

You and Peppers90 are the only 2 people in the world who are puffing your chest out about the Panthers defense right now. Seriously. You idolize a medicore unit that is known for choking games away.

how can anyone defend the offense this year? it's been pathetic.

and it's not like most think it's cam's fault...most people with a brain know that it's chud's fault for killing the offense that was so good, so i don't know why you're so uptight and downright defensive about the offense. blaming the offense for not getting on the board enough to win games isn't a criticism of your precious cam newton (who i have total faith in being able to take this team to the top, btw)...it's a criticism of the offense as a whole.

quit being so sensitive.

btw....if the offense had been able to get one frikkin yard at the end of the game we would have won it...but no. they had to miss opportunity after opportunity, including cam fumbling trying to get that one yard.

if the offense had been able to get more than 20 points every game we'd have been at .500 this year.

    • That's my biggest concern with making him the 2C.  You split up the Aho Jarvis bromance that accounted for a lot of points.  If Jarvis excels as a C, it could help the team even more though.
    • The Saints being that high is the one that killed me. Chris Olave might not know his name at this point, Shaheed is coming off injury as well, so 31 year old Brandin Cooks might be your best WR...coming off a 260 yard season over 10 games. Kamara is Kamara, but didn't have 1,000 yards last year and is about to turn 30.  Toss in the fact that Taysom Hill may be the best QB on the team and I truly don't understand Barnwell's thoughts beside seeing the names "Olave" and "Kamara" and going yep, that sounds better than "Chuba" and "Thielen".
    • Now now now, I wouldn't say there is no logic, but there's just not a lot of in-depth thought put into Barnwell's  "analysis." Now to be fair to him (and other national writers), pre-season team rankings are basically clickbait. And...Barnwell, himself, said that "there's a lot of projection here." He basically admits that he doesn't know how the hell things are going to turn out with our receiver group. He also said that "I find myself" more intrigued by Coker than Legette; that does not mean that he said that fans should be, or that Coker will even be better than Legette (regardless of ESPN's per-route-run stat). So, yeah, Barnwell said some things, but even he has to basically admit that he doesn't know how bad or good that our playmakers will be in 2025.  Overall, what Barnwell is basically thinking is that the Panthers have gotten worse at the offensive skill positions, and baked into that is that others have gotten better. That's the argument in July (meaning, please don't give this any more weight than it's due). I would personally be surprised (not shocked) if we end up worse than the Titans, Pats and Giants at least. Once you throw in the Bills, Giants, Jets, Steelers, and even the Chargers, I personally think there are several teams' skill groups that may end up ranked lower than ours by the end of 2025.  @kungfoodudeis one of my dudes, but like others he is over the tipping point. He's had enough. Seeing is believing. I will say this though: Barnwell's piece is less about logic than just good ol' opinion. And to be honest, he might as well be a Huddler throwing out sh¡t in the summer based upon nothing but good feels or bad feels.  Our offense as a whole (just like any other team's) is going to depend upon the play of the O-line and especially the QB. How you can even rank the skill positions without expressly baking those two things in the cake is beyond me. I would dare say that that's not even logical.
