Was Ron calling plays last game?

not a pro-ron post at all, just an observation.

last year, by his own admission, rivera was more involved in the offense which is part of the reason why the defense was so crappy. he said he was going to take more of an active role in the defense since the offense seemed to be doing well.

this year the defense is better, but the offense has been rather crappy and unproductive.

correlation or coincidence?

Did he actually say he was more involved in the O last year?

I thought he was more of a let the coordinators run things type of coach. I did hear him say he was going to be more involved with the D at the beginning of the year but that does not signify that he "was more involved in the offense"

i could be wrong, i mean it happens often enough, but i think i remember him talking about being more involved there. not necessarily with the play calling, but keeping a closer eye on what was going on just because that was the side of the ball that needed the most work (after 2010) and he had a rookie QB starting.

i think he became more hands off the offense this year. at least that's just my understanding.

I don't think Ron could anymore call an offensive play than Chud could call a defensive play. If Ron was involved in actual playcalling, it was on the defensive side of the ball.

i was assuming it was more just influencing what happens and maybe even some gameplanning and making sure that they were working on the right things in practice and focusing on the right things in the classroom.

    • If you need someone to run your multi-billion dollar business, maaayyyybe don't hire a guy whose previous work experience includes repeated blows to the head and literal brain damage but IDK.
    • Extrapolate that with every QB for that matter. I guarantee you there's quite a bit of missed opportunities and yards left on the field for everyone. Many NFL QBs deal with WRs not putting in A+ effort, subpar o-line play and other deficiencies. The great ones are able to rise above these issues and create opportunities for plays. Guys like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes can both play in and out of structure, as well as find ways to get yards when things break down and mask mistakes by throwing guys open, creating opportunities from nothing, etc. Bryce Young has only shown he's able to make things happen when the rest of the team picks up his slack. Very rarely does he create those opportunities himself. When this is a consistent pattern year after year with Bryce where he shows up lackluster, it's a concern. This is year three and he should be elevating the team as a first overall pick this franchise traded up for.  He was far from elevating anyone against JAX. In fact, he needed others to elevate and create for him. Excuses may be fine for a rookie, but this is year three for the first overall pick. Not looking good so far.
    • I think the worst issue is coaching. Countless bad snaps, XL not getting his feet in or trying on runs plays, our centre being down field when he didn't need to be. All seem to be from poor coaching for me. I believe Canales is to soft to rip the players a new one when the fug up. Plus I honestly believe that Canales is slow getting his plays in giving Bryce less time to diagnose and adjust to the defence. Don't worry I could of head butted Bryce for that fumble and the 4th down throw aways but the other plays are explainable to me
