For those of us who are wanting a 'Star' DT/NT...

how does Star compare to other top DT prospects- Suh, McCoy, and Dareus ?

In my opinion, less of a prospect than Suh but at least on par with, if not greater than, McCoy and Dareus. Star's burst off the snap is the quickest I've probably ever seen for a guy his size and he's very strong at the point of attack. He's not as polished as Dareus or as much of a pass rusher as McCoy but in terms of total package and potential I'd probably take him before the other two.

..you better hope that the Raiders start winning games or end up with a better record. Otherwise they will get Star Lotulelei instead of us.

Edit: Damn it, could a mod move this to the 'draft' section. I dun goofed.

What makes you think we can beat the raiders?

I don't know. I think Ron has one more win in him AT MOST. No way we get 5 wins IMO. He'll blow it some how.

Well I agree whole heartedly. 4-12 it is.

So people think DT is our biggest need now?

Dwan and Ron are holding it down for now and I think Dwan has several quality years left. No doubt, we need to address it still, but I don't know that it is our #1 need.

I'm thinking Safety or a solid #2 CB (assuming Norman will be taking over Gamble's spot) are higher up there for now.

I see what you're saying diddy, but remember Ron just when down and we need a YOUNG UT/NT Fua is not the answer and Ron is old as fudge. Getting that stud NT to take over for Ron when he's gone just has to be done. The biggest needs in my honest opinion would be DT, FS,OT, WR, G.

From what I've been reading and hearing he's better than Suh when he was coming out. Suh has declined a bit though. But Star is a good all around player, on and off the field.

Um, it's the raiders. They're horrible. We're at home and they aren't a good road team. Also they don't know if they're coming or going.

Maybe someone like Sylvester Williams in the second at NT

Looking at the prospects, if Hankins, Star, & Joekel are gone, I'd seriously consider Allen or Milliner and go either WR/OG/DT in the 2nd.

I wouldnt mind.

Hes also a big fellow, but I dont really keep up with him.

Hes a guy that his stock could rise by draft day.

Some mocks have him going late 1st. I just rather have a Star or Hankins before anyone else in this draft. If we miss out on the two of them, then Sylvester and Jenkins will be my two favorite DT left on the board.

Im iffy about Kawaan Short. I llike Ford, Richardson and Nix above Short.

If we don't get Star or Hankins, my next choice is Nix (not with our first choice of course). If none of those three I don't really want any others. I was considering John Jenkins for a while, but after watching some more youtube on him he seems incredibly sluggish. Powerful, yea, but sluggish and terrible technique. Short's ok I guess, and the rest are more UTs and we need a NT.

Jesse Williams is another interesting name. That guy will dominate at the next level no doubt.

I worry about stars production at the next level, I think he'll be good, but not great.

Hankins is still my front runner. He would be the perfect dominate nose tackle for us.

We are only guaranteed that the Falcons will be playing hard.

Raiders currently, cannot stick their finger up their butt with both hands--horrible

Chargers, losing coach and GM at seasons end, they have packed it in

With Saints out of the hunt by the time we play them, not sure what they will do.

Most teams will start playing backups in certain situations and try to ascertain just exactly what they have as far as a bench.

Look at Eagles, Vick will not be back, Foles will get opportunity to see NFL action, same with McCoy and Brown. Playing Brown looks like a great find for Eagles as long as he learns to hold on to the ball.

Personally, with the season gone, I would play Adams Murphy a lot in the last 4 games and Gettis if he is healthy. Do we need to write Gettis off? Who knows, but we have 4 games to learn this and draft accordingly.

We know that the Oline has issues, enough injuries have taken place to show us where we are there.

Dline is the same, LB, which was one of our strengths, still has an issue or two.

And I know I am on the outside looking in, but I would put Anderson in some during the second halves coming up. Backup QB, is an area where we probably know the least. Hey, it is next year and draft time in Panther land, a yearly ritual from Thanksgiving on.

This is just my own speculation but I'm really excited for whoever we get at DT this draft. I think we have an awesome attitude and culture on our D-Line this year. Guys like Hardy and CJ are stepping up into more vocal leadership roles. Dwan and Frank are studs who also seem to be in the same zone as the former two. Because of that mentality I think whoever we pick up is gonna get a boost from the intensity these guys bring, they don't quit and I think for a rookie with the potential these top guys have to join a line like that is huge. It's hard to quantify but it's just my own opinion. One more young nasty guy in the middle and we'll have one of the best D-Lines in football.

That actually makes sense, they'd try to copy the success of a division rival (Broncos) taking a 3-4 OLB in a 4-3 defense.

I could easily see that happening, but it's not to emulate what the Broncos did, it's the fact that Dennis Allen, the Head Coach of the Raiders, was the defensive coordinator of the Broncos when they took Von Miller. Allen knows how to use that style of OLB in his system (the same system Fox uses).
