Headed to Ecuador tomorrow

I'll be in other countries pretty much til the start of the spring semester, exploring and doing independent archaeological/anthropological surveys and observations. My wife and I are flying into Quito, renting a car and hitting the major highlights (expect for the Galapagos, which, tragically, are out of our budget) and possibly ducking into northern Peru if I can bribe the border officials to let us take an Ecuadorian rental car over the border. A few days before Christmas we'll take a bus into southern Colombia as well.

Then back home for a week before I fly to Panama for ten days with my father-in-law.

tl:dr version: get ready for more pictures.

sounds great... about those border guards... i'd be thinking more about how much it's going to cost to get back in.

If you go to montanita I may die. My future home is there.

in ecuador? what's there?

Otavalo Market is pretty cool if you get the chance to visit. It's about 1.5 hrs outside of Quito.

yeah I plan on stoping there for a day or so on the way to (or back from) colombia

Protect the wifey/spawn.

the first time we were gonna do this trip it was gonna be trekking extinct volcanoes and rafting down the amazon river.

now we're cruising around in a chevy volt and watching the sunset from tidy guesthouses.

i'll have to find new ways to get my adrenaline kicks

super laid back coastal town. awesome food and surfing. and surfing. and, well, more surfing.

Surfing in Montañita

Many people from all over the world travel to Montañita and enjoy surfing. Surfing in Montañita offers strong, consistent waves and good tubes make it a great place for accomplished surfers and challenging for newer surfers. Montañita is an increasingly popular destination on the international surfing circuit.[7] In the summer months wave heights range from 0.3 to 1 meter. In the late fall and winter waves can be as large as 1.5 meters. On occasion, from January to March, waves as large as 2 meters can be seen. Each February during Carnival, Montañita hosts an international surfing competition. [7]

    • Please finish this thing off. The rags look like they quit on the ice. Can’t give them any chance
    • We're about 15th/16th overall in terms of player age and only have 11 players over the age of 29...Not too bad and I was more talking about this incarnation of the team is young. Canales is only 2 years in as a HC and we have young talent to build around. Regardless of what happens with Bryce you can't tell me a team learns how to win by losing a poo ton of games every year. Need to be happy we are currently not a basement dweller at this point in the season like we have been for the last 7 seasons. Even the year we went 7-10 we were 2-7 at this point. We just knocked off the #1 team in the NFC and have a winning record after the first 8 weeks for the first time in over 7 NFL seasons. The team deserves at least a little bit of fan support after having turned a very small corner.
