Overlooked stat for Cam

Dalton is not a quarterback to build a franchise around. Like last night he had poor pocket presence and doesn't thrown a great ball. He benefits from a team with a great defense. Other than Green, Dalton rarely finds other receivers on a consistent basis. It is a good thing that he plays in a WCO which inflates his stats and covers for the fact he can't throw a deep ball. That and having Greene who is good enough to adjust to his frequent poorly thrown balls and make the adjustments.

dalton's deep ball is fugly and that issue is something that i rarely see mentioned. he puts up a lot of ducks which fortunately aren't of much consequence thanks to the presence of green. they're almost a compliment to cam's problems with short accuracy and overthrows. the notion that a quarterback who isn't 6'5" with a rocket launcher for an arm can't be a franchise guy is of course invalid but in dalton's case i don't know if he necessarily has the pocket presence or other attributes for it to not be a concern.

remember in the playoffs last season when jj watt picked him off for the touchdown? watching the play develop, you could tell that he was trying to send a heater on a ten yard out route to the sidelines but he was still intercepted at point blank range.

Well tell that to the Bengals because they are doing it and he has his team in a position to make the playoffs 2 years in a row.

Inconsistent? Completion %:

Andy Dalton: 62.5% on 472 attempts.

Cam's is 58.2% on 395 attempts.

Seems pretty consistent to me. Andy has completed more passes.

Spreading the ball around?

Top 3 receivers recepetions/targetted:

Andy Dalton: AJ Green 85/144 - Gresham 61/89 - Hawkins 45/70

Cam Newton: Smith 60/112 - Olsen 54/83 - Lafell 34/62

Look they both target their primary receiver a lot. And they both target their tight end 2nd. But Andy hits them at a higher percentage.

WCO?

Cam Newton's Air Yards: 1663 Yards after catch: 1557

Andy Dalton's Air Yards: 1637 Yards after catch: 1549

Pretty much identical. Cam's actually got a few more yards after catch.

Passing touchdowns:

Andy Dalton 26

Cam Newton 16

Granted Andy has 1 extra game, but still, I'm pretty sure that's enough to poke holes in that argument.

And again how is that any different than Cam having Steve Smith and his reliance on him? Is our 10+ year veteran receiver, not good enough to adjust to Cam's poor throws? Your argument is that Andy goes to AJ a lot? Which quarterbacks don't go to their #1 receiver a lot?

I agree about last night though. He had a poor game, but still scored one passing touchdown and a pretty nice rushing touchdown...and more importantly, won.

PS: The Air Coryell is also considered a west coast offense. We were one of the top 5 teams in the NFL in yards after catch last year, which inflates a quarterbacks stats quite a bit. Stewart had the most yards after catch on our team, our running back. Guess who was dumping the ball off a lot?

Ugh Richard, you're showing your asinine propensity for cherry picking stats again.

"Look guys, air yards!!!" this disproves that their passing schemes are different!!"

Well, no, not really.

Cam's Air Yards are 1663, but on only 227 completions, or about 7.32 air yards/completion

Dalton's Air yards are 1637 but on 295 completions (almost 70 more), or about 5.5 air yards/completion.

Your ass is showing, Richard. Go away.

Also, you're fuging retarded. The Air Coryell is not a WCO. The Coryell system was designed by Sid Gillman and Don Coryell. The WCO is Bill Walsh's system.

Your ignorance is showing, go away.

This is easy even for you..and your mad internet detective skillz.

There are two similar but distinct offensive-strategic-systems of play which are commonly referred to as "West Coast Offenses": (A) the Air Coryell system popularized by Don Coryell; or ( B )more commonly the offensive system popularized by Bill Walsh characterized by short, horizontal passing routes in lieu of running plays to "stretch out" defenses, opening up the potential for long runs or long passes.

reminder that PFFL was president of the The Golden Calf of Bristol fan club last year and was originally chased off this board because he was trying to argue that cam has narcissist personality disorder using dictionary.com

i remember that we found out that pffl actually is a narcissist himself. he made himself that that silly ypp thing the center of every thread and then when it was obvious to the mods that he was derailing every thread he entered into that worn out discussion and people just made fun of him for it he was banned and then went on a alt creating frenzy that was probably the biggest one the huddle has ever had because he couldn't handle not getting the attention he craved so much.

didn't he end up making some forum that nobody went to and that he had to create other accounts to make it sound like they all agreed with him? i guess he ended up back here because the last place that he went ran him off as well.

You truly are as arrogant and ignorant as you appear in your posts

http://wp.advancednflstats.com/airYardsStats.php

Cam Newton 4.3 air yards per completion.

Andy Dalton 3.7 air yards per completion.

You have NO clue what you are talking about do you? You have no clue what air yards, and passing yards are, do you?

The AC offense hasn't been referred to as a WCO since fuging Bernie Kosar. Quit being an idiot. When people say WCO they are talking about the Walsh system. You're arguing semantics instead of making any real points.

Those aren't air yards per completion dumbshit, those are air yards per attempt. I listed the per/completion in my post.

No one's proving themselves dumb but yourself.
