Personally, I am done with him and ready to move on. The perfect scenario for me is to win and still let him go.

I must say, for a little bit there I was on the "give him another year" bandwagon. But after reading Cyberjag's post about previous coaches that had 2 losing seasons and how they ended up and how it always seemed to end bad when you keep a old HC with a new GM, history just isnt on our side at all if we keep him. I say let him go no matter what.

Im sick of being a mediocre team - I have no confidence Rivera will ever be able to lead this team to greatness. I cant see him matching wits with a Bellicheat , Coughlin, sean payton or (gasp) John Fox and coming out on top

once again

one game should not make or break a decision WHY is that so hard to understand...

if ever and i mean EVER one game would- it would be teh difference from 8-8 to 9-7...there is maybe, MAYBE an argument for one game.

that said, Ron needs to go.

I agree 100% but I have seen it mentioned in previous threads that some fans felt that way, so hence I made it a an option.

Trust me I was one of the first if not the to jump off the Rivera bandwagon this year.

Get him another year, he has turned things around. With a new GM if things start going sour, then let him go saying he wasn't he GM's pick and things like that. If we let him go and get a new GM we are really rebuilding and the grass isn't always greener on the other side. It seems that with knee jerk reactions we are becoming the Browns, right coach, wrong GM, right players wrong coach, wrong coach right everything else. We need to get this right what ever we do!

We almost managed to beat atlanta twice this year. That means progress. If we change our head coach that means Chud is going to leave too and cam has a new system to learn. Now I'm not saying Cam can't handle that, but that means Cam is going to have to learn something completely new again and might struggle for another year (similar to what happened to Alex Smith). If we're patient and let Rivera have one more year, we could head to the playoffs. I really feel like this third year is Rivera's. The defense is finally starting to play well, Cam is playing phenomenally, and our run game is finally becoming scary again. If we get a new head coach it is going to completely stall everything and there is no way that we won't face mediocrity again. If you guys think we're going to get a Harbaugh-type coach, then you're idiots. We'll get stuck with an idiot like chip kelly (no business in the NFL) or Andy Reid who can't win a championship. Bill Cowher already said he's not coming here and there is no way Bill Parcells comes out of retirement. Jon Gruden would be a good fit, but again, it would stall cam's progression along with our young defense. If you recall the old stats, Rivera made two top defenses in 3 years at Chicago and San Diego. Give Cam a defense like that and we will make the playoffs without a doubt.

Its an unfair poll. I don't want Rivera as long as we get a BETTER coach... But who's to say we get a better coach?

To me I'm interested in the idea of Kelly, but I am one of the Andy people. I think Andy is a better coach and Kelly is worth the Gamble big risk big reward... other than that I just don't know.

    • Does this mean only topics from within the last year or any topics with posts from the last year? i.e. if there are any old threads we feel should be kept around for whatever reasons, would a bump of that thread before the update ensure it's kept around in full or do the posts from more than a year old still disappear?
    • I'm more intrigued at him becoming our future LG. There were some people who thought he was better suited to be a guard in the NFL to begin with.  Then if Freeling ends up being a legit LT, moving Ickey to LG could give us an incredibly strong left side of our OL for years to come. Ickey has only played on the Left side his whole career, both in college and the NFL, so I just wonder if keeping him on the left side, even if shifting inside, would be better than putting him outside on the right side. Just hoping him growing up a Panthers fan will make him want to stay here and move positions than enter FA so he can stay at LT somewhere else, particularly since LT is the big money position on the OL, so he likely can get paid more by someone else to play LT than play LG or RT here for us.
