jesus man are you telling me all these browns assholes are the best thing we can find in the league? i mean you can come from a bad team and be a good coach but at some point you have to wonder if correlation is actually causation

Actually if you look at their bios, you'll find most of the guys I mentioned only joined the Browns in 2011 (when Shurmur took the job).

They made their reputations elsewhere before signing on in Cleveland.

i grant you that, but we have a long history of browns personnel decisions blowing up in our faces

Discussed that elsewhere.

With Chud gone, we actually have no Browns associated folks on staff. We could hire some new ones, but the only one I know of that we're talking to is Shurmur.

(that is, unless you count Accorsi's Browns connections or the fact that Gettleman interviewed there)

i'm not saying they're on our staff - i'm saying we have a history of hiring guys with browns coaching connections that have not panned out and are subsequently no longer with us.

Heard a couple of people say that, but who can you name other than Davidson and Chudzinski?

Again, I think it's more perception than reality. I'll grant though that if we do hire Shurmur, three in a row would be enough to make a trend.

    • This.  He knows where the seam is about to open, cuts, and accelerates hard. He’s slippery and tacklers always seem to be taking awkward angles to get to him. No dancing. Runs low and powerful. Almost never goes backwards for a loss. We’ve rarely had the guy who bounces off of tacklers. It’s nice seeing another one.
    • I can't speak for others but yes I read it. The conclusions are based heavily around the use of the statistical metric DYAR created by football outsiders and used by ESPN for this article. It only includes players whose production began in 2000. But excluding HOF running backs who produced BIG in an iteration of the NFL that was not yet catered to making things much easier for offenses in order for them to prop up more recent candidates is rather absurd and seems like just playing favorites regardless of where one might fall on their opinion of the use of the metric in question.
