Son of a Beach: Mock Numero Uno (1)

Aloha Huddle! Here's to setting a better tone up in this forum, the Falcons NOT winning the SB, and the Spring coming fast.

*Note: this fake football draft is completely biased and based off of my lackluster non-expert fan oriented opinion and I'm going to have fun doing it. (photos and boobs added for visual effect and to make this seem better than it actually is)

Non-draft quickie with little to no research or cap knowledge: I think we'll need to focus on WR, OL, NT, OLB, and DB when Gettleman starts doing his sh*t.

Draft time....

(strategy: build from the lines out by not picking a lineman in the first) :)

I think Fisher, Warmack, Banks, & Milliner are gone. Its a tough choice remaining between the likes of Rhodes and all of the Wideouts

Round 1 Pick 14

DeAndre Hopkins WR Clemson

Its hard for me to choose between Allen, Hopkins, Patterson, and Williams. I think any of them can contribute, but I really want that explosive deep threat more than anything in this draft. As proven in these playoffs and with Smitty plenty in the past, that type of player can help close games. This for me boils down to T-Will and Hopkins. DeAndre is more reliable and sure-handed imo.

Round 2

DJ Fluker OT/G Alabama

Stout offensive lineman who would help out all of the guys that make up our crazy running attack.

*Note: Potential landing spot for my draft crush Quinton Patton, but he's not in these fake plans of mine

Round 4

Kwame Geathers DT Georgia

Big mamma jamma that came out early with a ton of potential. Definitely woud go for him if available here.

Round 5

Ricky Wagner OT Wisconsin

Another OT for depth and from arguably the school that produces some of the best NFL linemen imo. He's a good one from a consistent system that creates damn good run blockers. If Wagner is not available, go with Uzzi of Georgia Tech at G.

Round 6

Terry Hawthorne CB Illinois

50a5b2eece6ff.preview-300.jpg

I think he rises up some boards but you never know. Its near damn impossible to project this far

Round 6 (c. pick)

Cameron Lawrence OLB Miss St.

Seems like a typical late round lb'r who has a lot of upside but is a hit or miss. Hard to judge but I think someone like him could be a good ST asset and decent for depth down the road. Late rounder so its a whatever type deal.

**Wrap-up:

-Get a big play, deep threat for Cam and this offense

-Solidify the o-line and look to it's future

-FAs -- FS please for the one decent pick-up, a cheap RB, and make sure we re-sign D'wan

-OC -- Hue Jackson, Hugh Jackman, or Ken Whisenhunt

Dont take it personally, but Numero Uno looks more like number 2... Not liking it that much. Not yet sold on Deondre Hopkins. I did like the opening credits though.

Don't worry, I don't take mock drafts seriously. No one should. They're silly and fun to do.

But Les, I am curious in hearing why you aren't sold on Hopkins. I'm in general just curious about this WR class. I think its a strong top-8 or so without a sure-fire stud in the class so there will definitely be stark differences in fan's opinions. I'm as interested in Cobi Hamilton and Quinton Patton as Justin Hunter and Robert Woods.

I just really really really freaking want a new offensive weapon on this team. It's long overdue and him and T'Will will be staring us in the face midst the big uglies in that first round.

I guess if this happened I would be forced to lean towards Rhodes, Jesse Williams, or Barrett Jones. Probably the Bama boys, games are won in the trenches.

I do agree about the game being won in the trenches but doesn't make it a necessity in the 1st round. I could very easily lean toward a Jesse Williams/Quinton Patton combo scenario but I'm just aching for a flashy WR. No doubt, Rhodes and Williams seem like 2 very formidable prospects for us in the 1st.

I just feel WR is our top priority especially if Warmack & Fisher are gone and Gross stays, which is not out of the equation even considering the cap situation.

On the other side, we developed a strong defense amidst injuries and proved we can get pressure even when we rotate Frank or Greg inside with D'Wan; or even with Kearse or Chandler coming in for a play or two. Certain players definitely proved their worth and we still have the same HC who will stand by the guys he helped bring in. People forget we had a CJ-Hardy-Dwan-Alexander package in a decent chunk later on this past season.

I really think the more important factor is closing out games on the offensive end for us. Better road graders for the read option and more weapons are needed.

Like you, I enjoy these mock drafts and the discussion that follows.

Your perspective is sound and appreciate the desire for a new offensive weapon. I am just hesitant to grab a receiver at 14 because like you said, there is no sure fire stud in this crop. I just think that an OL/DL may be better for the team and will have an immediate impact. If we were picking later in the first I would be more comfortable going with Hopkins but at 14 I see it as a reach.

Also, keep in mind my opinions are mostly based on misinformation and blind ignorance so anything I say should be taken with a grain or two of salt.

Yeah, it's always nice to have a for sure immediate impact type guy in the first and thanks for the cool response. We're kinda all in the dark with Gettleman's upcoming tendencies so it will definitely be interesting to see how it plays out. I tend to think if a team has their board and really want that next guy not marked off, they take him regardless of the seemingly consensus expert rankings. Happened with Seattle for example when they shocked everyone with Irvin and even the Titans to a degree with Locker. The thing is its still really early.

Anyway, I think Fluker and Aboushi will both rise into the first. You've gotta imagine more than just 2 or so OTs will be taken in the top 32 or beyond before our 2nd rounder. There's definitely a ton of interesting directions we can take.

Going beyond the 1st, another 2nd rounder to think about would be this David Bakhtiari fellow. All I read about the guy is how consistent he was and how well groomed and well-rounded he is for the NFL. He came out early and doesn't warrant much hype coming from Colorado. I think he could definitely be a strong Gross replacement at LT if we don't go OT in the 1st.
