Game 1: Carolina Hurricanes (0-0) @ Florida Panthers (0-0)

This team looks like it's been eating doritos all off season or the Canadian/Russian/Finnish/Slovakian equal there of. They can't handle the puck, and they're their not physical at the point of attack. But at least after the first period we've won some faceoffs and been playing even hockey. Anywho, they need to get their poo together quick.

This reminds me of the Panthers vs Eagles game in 2009 when Delhomme shits the bed and reality comes down on everyone that it is going to be a long year. Ward has regressed over the years and we are going to be screwed when his ability goes down to zero. We have no heir apparent to Ward. We didn't make enough moves to improve in the offseason and this is the end result.

Carolina pro sports teams blow...

Canes

Panthers

Bobcats

All f*cking suck, this is embarrassing .

There must be something in the water here to make all the owners lay back and not give a poo about how their teams are performing. They're all about keeping families and friends together than winning.

I've kind of thought that Ward has been recently overrated as well. He helped bring us the Cup so that bought him some "ok he can have a few shitty years" acceptance from the fans. But it's time to find a consistent goal tender. Also if you breathe on our players hard enough they lose the puck out of the offensive zone.

Not only that, Florida just looked much bigger physically. Maybe the Canes should take the Gettlemen approach....bigger is better.

Dan Ellis is 32 years old. He should not be on the team. We should have a young backup that is up and coming that can eventually take over the starting spot within a year or 2 at most. The team is too confident in Ward when his abilities are obviously diminishing.

I do agree, but also II don't really think the rest of the team helped him out too much. They didn't take away angles properly, and we had zero puck possession. Alex Kovalev could have started a business behind our net. I saw our players skating into eachother....just really unorganized. I really wish we would have hung on to Laviolette.

Who was the young guy we had behind Ward not so long ago? Seemed a little promising and I sensed a controversy brewing there for a minute... I can't remember his name.

Anyway, yeah, even in my limited watching of us, the biggest thing that stood out to me was the lack of puck handling and poor passing. Just horrible. I didn't see any teams that looked that bad in those areas anywhere else yesterday. Also, really didn't see much from the Staals at all. I really hope we get it together and at least make the playoffs.

    • He has a lot to work on for sure but he has been a huge boost to the offense. It's nice to finally have an elite WR.
    • We have been on that roller coaster ride already. He needs to have streaks far longer than a couple of good games.  People raved about the Green Bay game in 2023. Which was mostly a good 2nd half and hot 4th quarter.  Ask me what happened the next four games, if you don’t remember. or just go look them up. There isn’t much to see.  The end of last year had some good things and one excellent outing, and look up what followed that, which you won’t have to but he came out this year looking like week 1 2023.  Now he is on a game and a half streak, against a bad Miami team and lowest rated defense in the league - at home.  This is the reality in the big picture. He needs to break his pattern, in a positive way.
    • This "noodle arm" characterization just baffles me. There's way more involved in a successful downfield passing attack than simple air yards. Let's take two stat-lines for throws of 40+ air yards (no YAC) from the last 3 seasons: 5/29 (17%) for 3 TDs and 2 INTs 1/9 (11%) for 1 TD So with three times the number of attempts, you net +6% completion percentage, the same TD rate, and 2 arm punt INTs to boot. The first player is Mahomes, the second is Bryce. Clearly Bryce attempts these throws at a much lower rate, but his success rate is quite similar to one of the most talented downfield throwers of all time. The takeaway isn't that Bryce is Mahomes-lite (if he was his usage rate for these would be much higher) but that these throws by their very nature are extremely difficult, very scheme-specific, and even an elite thrower can have wildly differing success rates season by season. And before we get into the complaints of cherry-picking, this is far more substantial information than the various insinuations that Bryce struggles to even get the ball 20 yards downfield, much less 40+. And the wildest part of this is that every time Mahomes threw a bomb over the last 3 season, 83% of the time the end result was failure, yet many Chiefs fans complain that he isn't taking even more shots downfield.
