Morgan Retires Again

Meeks and Williams are both good DCs.

Yep.

I hate to say this because I can't stand it when others say it, but if New Orleans can build a quality defense they will be a very formidable team. But people have been saying that for a long time.

The team's recent draft picks and player and coach signings are definitely a step in the right direction. It will be interesting to see how both the Panthers and Saints defense changes.

How did they ignore it?

They hired a new defensive coordinator(Gregg Willliams)

Signed a new CB-Jabari Greer

Signed a new safety-Darren Sharper

Drafted Malcolm Jenkins CB/S

Signed Paul Spicer DE

Drafted Chip Vaughn & Stanley Arnoux

The defensive philosophy is totally different under Williams, he wants a fast, versatile, pressure defense. Our secondary is totally re-vamped with Greer/Porter/Jenkins/Gay being our CBs and Harper/Sharper/Jenkins as our safeties. Not to mention Sedrick Ellis will have a year under his belt along with the other DT from last year's draft Demarrio Pressley coming back from injury. Yeah, nothing has changed.

This defense has me giddy.

Gregg Williams was so awesome he got himself fired from Jacksonville who had a talented defense. He'll be a small improvement but he won't fix your problems.

Jabari Greer is nothing to write home about, decent at best, and Sharper is just doesn't have much left in the tank. The only thing you're gonna get out of him is leadership and even then that's not going to be enough to fix things in your secondary. Malcom Jenkins was a good pick but he can't cover everyone.

Spicer is more of a 3-4 DE, which doesn't do much to help your lack of effective pass rush. As far as Vaughn and Arnoux, don't expect much out of them.

The Saints made changes to their defense but change in and of itself doesn't mean it's going to be better. Adding onto that the rather injury prone nature of your current crop of players and I'm not sure what you guys can expect to be different from your defense over the course of the season.

Williams was fired because of his ego clashing with Del-Rio. He wasn't a good fit with that staff. His other stops with the Titans and Redskins were impressive and I think he'll do the same in New Orleans.

Spicer is not a 3-4 DE, he's been playing in a 4-3 scheme in Jacksonville for years. I don't know where you got that, probably your ***.

The rest of your assesments are laughble, ''they all suck.'' deep.

You know, I like stirring things up from time to time but I try my best to provide accurate & fair observations about Panthers players. I'm not going to be an *** and say they all suck, you shouldn't expect much out of them, etc. It wouldn't kill for some of you to be fair sometimes.

Williams spent four seasons (2004-07) as assistant head coach/defensive coordinator with the Washington Redskins. From 2004-07, the Redskins ranked sixth in the NFL in defense (306.6), second in the NFC, and seventh in rushing defense (103.8). The Redskins allowed only 19.4 points per game during that span, the ninth-fewest in the NFL.

In 2005, the Redskins defense propelled the club to its first postseason appearance since 1999. The defense allowed only 11.7 points per game in the last six games. The defense finished ranked ninth in the NFL and sixth in the NFC. In his first season with the Redskins, Williams' unit ranked third in the NFL and first in the NFC. They also finished third against the rush and seventh against the pass in the NFL.

Before joining the Redskins, Williams spent three seasons as head coach of the Buffalo Bills. During his tenure in Buffalo, his defenses improved each of the three seasons. In 2003, the defense finished second in the NFL, improving from 15th in 2002 and 21st in 2001. Overall, the Bills’ 2003 defensive and special teams units finished among the NFL's top-five teams in nine categories.

Williams spent 11 seasons with the Tennessee organization (1990-2000), including four seasons as the defensive coordinator from 1997-2000. He was hired in 1990 as a defensive quality control coach and was promoted to special teams coach in 1993. Before taking over as defensive coordinator, Williams spent three seasons (1994-96) as linebackers coach.

In 2000, the Titans' defensive unit led the NFL in total defense for the first time since joining the NFL and the 191 points allowed were the third-fewest in the NFL since the league adopted a 16-game schedule in 1978. The team also established the franchise's single-season records for sacks (55), fewest passing yards allowed (2,424) and fewest touchdowns allowed (17). The Titans ranked first in the NFL from 1999-2000 with 109 sacks.

yeah, he's terrible.

he's always had much better talent than new orleans has on defense

also, my dad just did a golf tournament here in atlanta with a bunch of nfl neurosurgeon dudes.

they joked and told him that when morgan broke his leg in 2001 after the favre stiff arm on the disintegrating grass, he also got a concussion lol

That was part of it but honestly look at the performance of that defense. There was a tendency to fall apart towards the end of the game and there was absolutely no pressure on the QB at all. While that wasn't a major strength the year before for the Jags it got worse. When he left Tenn and Was the good defense continued on regardless of whether he was there or not.

You're a bit daft aren't you? Just because he was on a 4-3 team does not mean he was the best fit as a 4-3 DE. He's a big guy who can take up blockers and get some interior pressure, but he's not a reliable pass rusher by any means and he's slowing down a bit.

Where did I even say your acquisitions sucked? They were merely average/solid guys who will help but won't make a major change for your defense. Why you can't rap your mind around that I don't know.

I am mostly objective whenever I evaluate any player because I know they could just as easily not be on a team I don't like. You however have a very strong bias towards your own players which is normal but when someone disagrees with you there isn't any need to be a whiny bitch about it.

The Williams/Jax experiment was a mess, mostly because of Del Rio's tension with Williams. Del Rio is a strong willed guy who wants to have a big hand in the defense but Williams is the same kind of guy with his own ideas and philosophy. He'll fit in New Orleans because Payton has nothing to do with the defense, and it will just be Williams running things.

Spicer has been in a 4-3 scheme since around 2000, I would think he's adapted by now. No matter his size that's the scheme he is used to.

You're comments about Greer were-''the only thing he'll bring is leadership'', ''Don't count on anything from Vaughn & Arnoux''. you might as well have saved the time an said they sucked.

Come back when you can be somewhat objective.

We'll see, there is a lot of young talent on this defense.

well they're young, i'll give you that.

i'd prefer not to have to rely on big ten skill position players but hey that's just me

also lol spicer is average as poo

    • well, he all but indicated that in his press conference   He wanted his passing offense to ‘come alive’  however, there  where so many mistakes on offense besides Bryce, per film review done by some podcasters I respect in the All 22   Young, missing reads, throwing off his back foot continuously, late with throws    We are in year 3….enough receivers and Young thinking it’s one route and it was another  Tet dropping critical passes…I’ll tell ya, I’m over this one.  Top 10 pick, pretend you are Malik neighbors or Jefferson and catch the damned ball …and the ever so popular Legette, ballerina that he is, stepping out of bounds,,again they need a veteran receiver out there and they don’t have it…I get the concept of wanting young and the receivers to grow together but young has to grow first, and it is ending year 3   One thing about Thielen, he was always where he was supposed to be, he seldom dropped passes and he had no problem keeping his feet in bounds  What these guys do in practice together, no idea
    • If you trot Brycie out there again next year or pick up his option there will be some serious dissention among the troops. Who is going to put forth effort while getting their bodies busted up only to know we really don't have a chance at winning. They know he is terrible. I only  saw 2 wins on the schedule at the beginning of the year and our record is a fluke. I'm as surprised as anybody. Trying to win with Brycie is like trying to win the Daytona 500 in a Ford Escort.
    • Honestly, with McVay as HC and Matt having the year of his life, Williams doesn’t matter I've watched the rams a lot this year and the line gives ,Matt time, puca and davante are constantly open and if they aren’t the TEa are. McVay  plus a healthy stafford equals Super Bowl if that defense can hold up
