Jake Delhomme's next starting QB job...

if he were released today.

Please don't flame. This is legit. I am curious to see any thoughts/arguments on what other franchises would look at Jake Delhomme as a starter for their team or what team he could get acquired by and legitimately unseat the current depth chart to be able to be named as the starter one full year from today barring any trade or retirement of current rosters.

I cannot think of one and I'm not saying that is a bad thing. Maybe he is perfect for the Panthers and only the Panthers but where else would he potentially work out?

Thanks for all the input in advance.

Tampa Bay- Because they will take any Quarterback

Minnesota- They need a Quarterback

Washington- They want a better Quarterback

San Fran- They would probably take a look at him

Denver- Denver would probably take a look at him

Cleveland- Could Possibly take a look at him

Houston- Could Possibly take a look at him

good suggestions...pick one and tell me why he is better than what is there. I am gonna rule out(imo) denver..pass too much, Washington...not better than current roster, and Cleveland for the same reason without even thinking hard. Houston is intriguing as well as San Fran. Why does he fit either of those?

Yeah, there are plenty of teams that would take him. Besides the ones CP listed, the Jets and Lions would consider bringing him in to be starter for a year or two while they developed their rookie QBs.

So to protect their investment he might be a stopgap? not the qustion. Where does he earn the starting spot and unseat the current roster. And more importantly where can he do that? Where does he fit?

Pretty good list. I'd include Phoenix, (Warner is not going to last long and Lienert hasn't proven anything)

Seattle - a lot of injury problems there with an aging QB.

Baltimore - great defense, but where's the offense?

Tennessee - Kerry is 37 and everybody and his brother is now saying Vince Young can not be an NFL QB.

I would say Minnesota because he could excel there just like excelled this year in Carolina (Until that playoff game) because Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor could open up the pass for him. The only thing Minnesota is missing is that Big Playmaker WR and a decent Quarterback. Jake is a decent Quarterback and was able to excel last year with the help of Double Trouble and of course that Big Playmaker WR Steve Smith.

denver philosophically doesn't pass much, they only have been the past 2 years because they had cutler. delhomme would definitely start on denver.

washington... delhomme is leagues better than jason campbell.

cleveland doesn't have better QB's then jake delhomme.

houston wouldn't take him... schaub is a fine quarterback.

Schaub is good but look what happen when he wen't down and they put in a back up. It was like Houston's version of David Carr with their QB issues when Schaub went down (except for the fact that Schaub wasn't injured for the entire season.)

Throw numbers a side and look at from a different perspective such as..... Where would Jake play after his career in Carolina (Unless he retires as a Panther)

ok..well IMO i dont think any team will take him as the unquestioned starter...maybe as a backup vet..one i think you only can look at teams with good RB..no other team will take him with out that..and i dont see it as a starter...maybe oakland

-too many receivers and no running game

-doubt would unseat Matt in a year and no running game

-Delhomme will never unseat Joe Flacco in Baltimore

-Vince still better option. I doubt Jake could take the job from him much less Collins within a year.

giving the year is a gift and its still tough. If it was come in and unseat right now I doubt there would be any.

    • Bryce and Dave will determine how many games this team wins next year. It’s not on the WRs. The RBs. LBs. This is about 2 things: 1. Can Bryce continue to come up big in the few key downs that decide most games?  2. Can Canales evolve his play calling to counter punch like the big boys do. Half time adjustments.  teams that score 30+ points on the regular win more games than not. That’s on Bryce and Dave. The offense is top 10 at every position group, save for TE and QB. A baller TE is gravy but not crucial when the receivers are dudes.  The defense is the defense. It’ll be better this season, hopefully by a large margin, but Dave/Bryce is really where it’s at.
    • Normally I'd wholeheartedly agree with this. But I feel like teams figured out this offense after the Raiders game. Bryce was so inept the first 2 games that we couldn't really even run the offense. Dalton's first game showed what we had. But after that game, coverages got a lot tighter and windows were smaller. When Bryce came back in, his ability to extend plays made a big difference. It's really difficult to stop a QB that can beat/escape 1on1 tacklers. It puts a lot of pressure on the defense when you blitz. And he was completing throws in tight coverage with anticipation. Point being Bryce wasn't throwing to wide open receivers that were schemed open by the offense. Occasionally yes. But not often.
    • With the additions we've made to our roster combined with the state of the division and the conference as a whole there is no excuse for this team not to make a legitimate push for 8-9 wins. Anything less is honestly inexcusable. There will be no more free passes for being a doormat in this iteration of the league where even mediocre teams are competing for playoff spots.
