According to Person we're keeping Williams...

I'm just wondering what sacrifices have to be made to keep double trouble together? who are we going to have to cut and where are we going to get the cap space to pay for them?

where are we going to be weak because we are so intent on keeping an underutilized, unnecessary, and easily replaceable couple of players?

if we sacrifice other areas to keep double trouble together, then hurney shouldn't have been fired and gettleman is no upgrade. how gettleman handles this will be the best indicator of what to expect. is this feanchise going forward or are we doomed to repeat the futility of the past? that's what we'll find out.

Hurney created this mess. If you are expecting the cap/contract situation to be corrected in one season you are dreaming. It's a bit premature to make assumptions and send Gettleman to the guillotine. It's only February dude.

Can't be fixed in a year....true

But to fix it he will have to start addressing some of the many Hurney issues....and he has yet to dip is toe in that pool of water.

If he doesn't do anything but get rid of Gamble this year....I think JR made a weak hire as Hurney would have made that one move and kept the rest as is

Knee Jerk mind: Cut that bastard right now, he's not worth the cap hit because running backs arent worth big money!!!

Rationale Mind: I agree he's not worth the cap hit but its not just as simple as getting a full refund on the cap hit by cutting him.

Knee Jerk mind: You fuggin idiot running backs are not worth big money cut him now!!!

Rational mind: Again I agree he's not worth his cap hit. However cutting him only prolongs the problem and hampers our ability(spending money against the cap) in 2014 and the minimal savings we get this year is not enough to offset that hit when we can just keep him 1 more year and get everything we can out of him.

Knee Jerk Mind: You are soo dumb.We are paying too much money for 3 running backs, we can't utilize them all so why keep him you dumbass???

Rationale Mind:Okay heres the math. Save 21 million over 3 years by keeping him, even if he rides the pine the entire year. Anything else we get out him is an added bonus! Conversely cutting him now only saves us 18 million over the next 3 years.

Knee jerk mind: Why can't you understand he's not worth the money, he has to go right now, no better yet YESTERDAY!!!

Rationale Mind:Nice talking to you, goodbye.

We have no indication that is all he has planned though.

I would rather our GM carefully weigh his options than make decisions on a whim like the huddle would do.

He can and will make several moves. Just because the one you have singled out is not happening(and for good reason that you refuse to acknowledge) does not mean he was a bad hire.

Nothing knee jerk about overpaying RBs is a bad idea that costs us at other spots......the talk started before we paid both.

It is a about getting better as a team quickest. Sometimes you eat money to do it

Then that is fine...I fully realize he can't make them all now.

This is an option to start addressing them. Point remains he has to start fixing Hurney's mess now and he hasn't done diddly poo yet....therefore the talk remains and should.

All I said is he isn't a good hire until he proves to be it.....he hasn't done anything. He needs to help his coach first and foremost.....lets see what he does. Hurney didn't help Ron....he put Ron a hole and gave him players for a different team

You can't indicte Gettleman for contract's Hurney signed. The dumbest thing he could do is have short sighted approach and make matters worse.

Hurney was the king of short sighted moves(in spite of the future) I.E The bigass contracts of 2010 and trading away future picks.

There are several moves that can and will be made to improve our team and cap situation. However this is just not the right time to cut D-Will. Next year makes sooooo much more sense for the long term health of our cap.

I didn't.

His job is to fix the mess.....Hurney could of kept it all the same.

Then if we ignore DWill for now.....what part of the mess do you suggest he starts correcting this year

Cam's rookie year the only difference was we didn't have Tolbert and we had the best rushing attack in the NFL

Last year was one big offensive fug up and you cant seriously think you know anything moving forward by using last year as a judging mark. If you were able to use LAST year as a judging mark then LAST year we would have been a top 5 offense right? because in 2011 we had the 7th best offense and in a year we would obviously trend up...WRONG

So now if the team actually calls plays on offense like they have some sense (Shula), like they did in 2011 PLUS having Tolbert we should hypothetically have a better rush game then in 2011

Bottom line is if you don't want us to get back to a ground and pound offense then no you shouldn't like this move, but if you want to get back to ground and pound you will love this move. Guys, we could make the playoffs solely on having a top 5 ground game again. I don't want to hear that oh we could find a scrub to go in the backfield and dominate for much cheaper. I tend to like having the best stable in the NFL + that our QB can dominate on the ground too

We weren't ground in pound in 2011....

Newton made us the best attack in 2011 bc we had a decent OL.......and RGIII did the same in 2012 for his team. It isn't about the RB when you have a special guy at QB.

Problem in 2012....we short changed our OL. That was more costly than cute Chud. 3/5th weren't starting caliber heading in and them we lost Kalil.

Are we trading Newton? Are we trading Stewart and Tolbert as well?

Only way for him to earn his check is for us to be a running team and for him to get 20ish carries a game....which isn't going to happen.

Right, because you already know our gameplan for next year.

Huh, so....then you suggest it is possible Rivera's boy Cam won't touch the rock much despite being head and shoulders the best aspect of both the run and pass game under Rivera.... Stewart and Tolbert won't be used much and Williams will be actually used as a 20 carry featured RB.

I don't know the plan....but I know Williams can't earn his current money on this roster. It is just impossible.....the RBs can't earn their checks.

One ball. I do know that.
