Big Beezy's Mock Draft & FA Signings 1.0

Here's my first attempt of how I think offseason could play out after cuts and restructures:

Free Agency

Re-sign DT Dwan Edwards-played well for us last year (Alternative: Chris Canty)

Sign NT Sammie Lee Hill- stuck behind Suh & Fairley, could start at NT( Alternative: Terrence Knighton)

Sign S Kenny Phillips-relatively young, quality safety when healthy. (Alternative: Patrick Chung)

Sign CB Greg Toler- Under the radar. Has starting experience. (Alternative: Keenan Lewis)

Sign G Donald Thomas- Can play all 3 interior line spots. Could start at RG (Alternative: Kevin Boothe)

Sign OL Geoff Schwartz-Compete with Bell for spot at RT, can also play G (Alternative: King Dunlap)

Sign TE Dustin Keller**- Caveat: **only make this signing, if available on a 1-yr 'prove it' deal

Sign WR Dominek Hixon**- Caveat:**See Dustin Keller explanation

Draft

1st- Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri- Wanted to take Johnson or Rhodes here but both will probably be gone to San Diego (11th) and Tampa Bay (13th), respectively. Richardson will probably be BPA at this point, which is not a bad thing. (Other options: G Jon Cooper, WR Keenan Allen, CB Desmond Trufant)

2nd- Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee- He may be gone at this point but I'm going with him based on current projections. Would be a great complement to current crop of WRs (Other options: WR Nuk Hopkins, CB Jordan Poyer, NT Brandon Williams (if we don't go DT in the 1st))

4th- Shamarko Thomas, S, Syracuse- This is a deep safety class so somebody will fall. Thomas is a big hitter with great measurables and has the ability to cover slots in nickel packages. (Other options: DB Brandon McGee, OG/C Brian Schwenke, another S that might fall)

5th- DJ Hayden, CB, Houston- Kid is a 2nd round talent that may fall due to injury concerns but would be worth the gamble here or maybe even the 4th. (Other options: S TJ McDonald, OT Brennan Williams)

6th- Kwame Geathers, NT, Georgia- May not last this long but it's where he's currently projected. Has great size but is still raw and will need time to develop. Adds depth to the DL and could contribute in a rotation in run/goal line situations. (Other options: OL Travis Bond, S Ray Ray Armstrong, K Caleb Sturgis)

With the cap having risen to $123.9 mil, and Gettleman slowly but surely chipping away at it we might be able to have a decent FA period. I doubt we could sign all those mentioned in the OP, but certainly more than I was expecting going into this offseason.

Your mock is nice, I'd definitely be happy with it, but like KKL said I don't think Hunter will be available with our 2nd. I think our best chance at getting him (which I would love to do) is with a trade like the one mentioned in the SF-Revis thread where we get SF's 1st and #34 for our 1st (and maybe a throwaway pick) and then take Hunter at #34.

Too much on the FA. Many guys who are top 5 at their respective positions...Could I see Phillips and either Dwan or Hill...yes, but not both with Toler...What a fuging hall and draft class though good googly moogly, I would fuging faint.

This would be great but it seems too unrealistic.

It's weird how everyone's saying every wr won't fall. What's unique about this draft class is that the wr talent isn't a sure thing. With so many teams drafting bpa a wr may not get picked up till the middle of round 1. The second best wr may last until near the end of round 1, with other talent rated higher on teams draft boards. Unless the second round is nearly all wide receivers, SOMEONE will fall to us. Hunter is reasonable given his injury, teams may be scared away in the early second.

not ready made. still has to get stronger and physical, work on his route running and catching the ball. difference is one has played in a WCO while the other played in a triple option/wing t offense.

It's a difference in working on your route running then having to learn all the routes in the tree as a whole.

Question: who on that FA list is breaking the bank? I believe we'll have money to sign some mid-level FA.

Hunter may not be there at 44 but it's not a guarantee that he won't.
