FONTANA, Calif. -- Denny Hamlin has been diagnosed with a compression fracture in his lower back following a crash on the last lap of Sunday's Auto Club 400.

The compression fracture -- which occurs when a vertebrae in the spine collapses -- can occur in healthy people who suffer a vertical shock to the area.

Hamlin remained hospitalized near Auto Club Speedway on Monday, as he met with doctors to determine the extent of his injury. He wrecked while racing for the lead with rival Joey Logano, a former teammate who initiated the contact. Hamlin was airlifted to a hospital.

Nice job Logano.

I dont think it was intentional. He overdrove the corner and ran out of talent, then tried to play it off and act tough. The lil fuger has bought in to his own hype.

He doesn't even have hype anymore lol I wonder where all of those people who were calling him the next Jeff Gordon are now

Nah man, all season since he's been running halfway decent with Penske they've been saying how he's "turned the corner", and finally started hitting his potential.

In 5 races, Matt already has half as many wins in the 20 as he did in 150ish.

I thought mark was gonna drive the 11 while Hamlin was out and Vickers was gonna get a headstart with the 55 team. I know Gibbs had thought about Vickers for the 11 but waltrip wanted to keep him in the 55 since he's gonna take over for mark next year. I'm a Vickers fan and I would love to see him in a jgr cup car but I think its better that he gets some more work in with his future team.

    • No poo tho you might could Jenkins for Legette. They got nothing at WR after the big 2 in Cincy. I don’t think you trade away OL depth. Could get a quality player in cuts. Really that 3-4 end spot what you should be looking for is someone who is stout with long arms and can push back the OL in both the run and pass game for others to make plays…. But we signed Wharton, sometimes I think Evero is a fraud ass nerd who should be an analyst at best.
    • you would honestly probably do Monroe Freeling more of a disservice by putting him in a position where is not yet ready to succeed. .we all knew Monroe Freeling struggled at the NFL combine in drills because of technique related issues & would need time to develop  & now all of a sudden before they even put the pads on Monroe Freeling is somehow a starting LT in the NFL ? if he struggled at the NFL scouting combine what do you actually think is going to happen in a live NFL game at LT ? .even our best LT of all time was not ready to start at LT when he was a rookie & he turned out to be a pretty good darn LT by the name of Jordan Gross ...just saying be patient Young Jedis
    • well i could go on & on but i will just highlight it by saying big difference trust me from the SEC & NFL.it's honestly like comparing apples & oranges especially when you are talking about a  LT. in the NFL you are going up against the most athletic freaks of nature the world has to offer . .the NFL also has much more exotic & complicated defensive schemes than what they are used to seeing at Georgis &  finally but most importantly you have to learn how to master complex bio mechanics where the body kick steps instantly as a reaction to these world class athletes rush without really making a conscious effort it's more of a learned muscle memory  & it can take thousands upon thousands of reps to master rproper technique for a LT in the NFL especially if you are still very raw like Monroe Freeling is    ...just saying
