Panthers propose 10 year tether, 6 year "hard" tether

I think Richardson has talked himself into thinking this is good for the community and ties the team here long term after he's gone. It's a "favor" to us. But seriously, if you want to be captain awesome, you could just sell a large stake of the team now to somebody who wants the team to stay here.

It's a lose/lose for the city. Either give away stacks money you really can't afford to give (and that won't be politically well received) or risk being stuck with a giant albatross in the middle of Uptown Charlotte.

We're a top 25 market in the 10th most populated state, the panthers market is too big to leave, this is the same reason why behind Mexico, Charlotte is the next most likely landing spot for MLB franchise.

Teams more likely to leave are the Jags, chargers and raiders, the chargers and raiders would just be moving in state.

There is 0 reason right now for the panthers to leave so please quit talking about it because its annoying as fug.

@CBJspanberg: Beyond 6-yr hard tether city has option of 4 more yrs with lower damages or stadium transfer to city for $1 if team left.

@CBJspanberg: City needs 10 yrs to repay debt but only has 6 yrs of hard tether as city describes it.

@CBJspanberg: Mayor Foxx made first overture to Panthers in September. Mayor isn't at today's meeting.

It's a current event, Doc. Gonna have to deal.

The Jags look ripe, though they do have the new owner. Not sure how much longer he can put up with having to tarp half his stadium though.

@CBJspanberg: Deal leaves $11M in conv center reserve fund. Kimble calls it 'slim margin' but says city likely to seek more from state for conv ctr later.

@CBJspanberg: Projects omitted because of smaller deal include club seat/suite improvements, indoor practice field, upgrades to team store.

Whew, glad to hear the team history area didn't fall by the wayside - I think it's something that is sorely needed by this young franchise.

    • I'm not too familiar with Chenal so this might be a lazy question..... Would a Chenal signing be any similar to us giving Turk a big contract? An under appreciated fringe starter in KC that teammates and front offices love and envision them taking off in a new city.
    • I LOOOOVED Nick Emmanwori in last year's draft and seeing him thrive and become an instant leader of Seattle's defense this year makes me want a similar rookie beside Moehrig.  In scanning this year's draft, I came across Zakee Wheatley from PSU. Not exactly the same build, but Senior Bowl measurements have him at a hair under 6'3" & 200lbs and runs a 4.4. His acceleration, ability to span the field and be a true center field coverage safety would allow Moehrig to float more near the LOS and play to his strengths with a worthy compliment. Wheatley is a modern day lengthy SAF and he excels in zone coverage, isn't afraid to get dirty in the run game and has a nose for the ball.  We play such a soft cover-3 scheme that having someone with speed to roam would be great. I'd especially like to see us roll Ransom out there with these two as well with Horn/Jackson to secure that backend for us. Looking like a R2 pick as of now with some saying early third. If he truly is an athletic specimen that his numbers show, I assume he will only climb higher after the combine.  https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25250463-nfl-draft-2026-scouting-report-penn-state-s-zakee-wheatley Will defnitely look to see how he does at the Sr. Bowl this weekend and in Indy next month.
    • Yeah, I can see that too. Sticky, reliable hands that does not drop a lot of balls and runs the whole route tree.
