The player that the beefed up front could help the most...

Oh, and making any assumption about our DB corp in the offseason is open to debate. We all have hindsight. None of us have foresight. Speculate away. Cuz that's what fans do. But keep one thing in mind. Gettlemen has got this.

Chuck my friend, at the end of the day they were the "#1 ranked team" rightfully so or not.

At the end of the day, the Carolina Panthers will have at least a "Top 3 Defense" by playoff time, rightfully so or not.

Rivera didn't have anything CLOSE to our current front 7 in San Diego. And their secondary wasn't much more impressive than ours..

On a tangent, it is Wilkes 2nd year on the squad. He was a big part in getting that San Diego secondary on full go.

Big things this year man, big things.

Edit: ** # 1 ranked Defense

One of the best in the biz. Imo, at this point in time. We have a very deep staff. Top, Gettlemen on down,  there are talented people at almost every position. For the first time in really ever, we have a staff that is chuck full of "Football Folks".

I know some folks don't want to hear this. But... There is a new Culture up in here. Some of these kids don't even know Fox was a coach here. His culture is gone.

Half our D are Rivera guys. They only know Rivera and how he does things. Throw in a new GM that appears to be of the same ilk as Rivera. And you have a very compelling argument for a bright future.

But... The #! D? Even I can't get behind that one. And I am as optimistic as anyone. One scary azz unit to have to plan for? Sure. And potentially, top tenish for sure. I just think we are one more year from reaching our potential.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Norman based on Gettleman's praise.  There's no way of knowing if he truly has improved unless we see him out in an actual game...if you recall last year during practice and OTAs he played pretty damn well, having to match up against Steve Smith for a large part and having that 4-pick practice (and eventually earning a starting job).  I'm not saying Norman is one of them...but there are some people who can't handle game-time pressure and it gets in their head during the game.  There's no question that he has the talent...but we'll just have to see if he can put it on display when it counts.

Yes, the D that was on the field at the end of the season was pretty darn good.

This is the time of year that intrigues me the most. Are the kids, ah hellz everybody, putting in the work needed to improve? With this being there first real offseason, are they using all the resources at their disposal to get better?

If so, and with more familiararity with the system. I see two very good reasons to believe that the DB corp should show improvement. But hey, what do I know?

Man, I already feel sorry for Florence. Fans are gonna rage if Norman doesnt get in at the 1 at some point. You know he's gonna get burned, all corners do. Fans are gonna be calling for his head. Watch what happens when a stud receiver starts taking over a game against us.

Norman has got to show up at camp big to get that starting spot and he better not be backing off of tackles. He's got to lay the wood on some people and let Rivera know that he's ready.

    • They won my vote of confidence for this year
    • I really like the way this team is trending. Morgan and Canales rookie campaign saw them do some questionable picks but, they also did some really good things. Especially addressing the offensive line.  Young had such a disastrous rookie season where his confidence was nowhere to be seen.  You can attribute part of this to a terrible offensive line.  So, we focused on the O-line.   We then brought in several defensive free agents that were supposed to compliment Brown.  Once Brown went down those players could not hold the line.  2025 we focused on defense in Free Agency and brought in several good players.  We then added more talent in the draft.  I think we have competition in several areas where Vets are not guaranteed to be starters.  Our offensive line is pretty set with some good backups.  Our defensive line is going to be a war for who comes out to be the starters.  All in All, we are leaps and bounds much better than 2023 roster.  Canales made some rookie head coach mistakes but grew as the season progressed.  He got our QB, who was starting to look like a huge bust, playing with confidence and poise.  Now it appears Young is moving upwards.  Maybe he is a QB whisperer.  After Young started to play better our offense was fun to watch.  Morgan knows football and knows what he wants in his players.  It appears to me that not only are these players he's drafted really good and got great value for them, but they are also high motor, intense players. Our defense, in the past, was always the key to our success.  I think Morgan is building a great defense. I know it is too soon to tell but I believe we may have a tandem that will be around a long time.  It would be nice to see Morgan/Canales be in the same class as Lynch/Shanahan and Beane/McDermott.   I know many Huddlers will overreact, but I truly believe we have a tandem that will be around a long time. TIME WILL TELL. Go Panthers
