Wide Receivers

1. Jordan Matthews, Vanderbilt – Many were surprised that Matthews opted to return for his senior season. He is a complete wide receiver who has the ability to be a No. 1 wideout in the NFL.

ch-9592.jpgHoffman caught 100 passes for 1,248 yards and 11 touchdowns in 13 games at BYU last season.

2. Cody Hoffman, Brigham Young – Hoffman is a big, physical wide receiver who use his body to shield defenders and catches the ball well.

3. Devin Street, Pittsburgh – We love Street’s size and playmaking ability, but the Panther standout needs to get stronger.

4. TJ Jones, Notre Dame – Jones will be Notre Dame’s best offensive player this year and should get a lot of chances to make plays while showing he could be a No. 1 wide receiver in the NFL.

5. Kevin Norwood, Alabama – Norwood is a big-time playmaker, but sometimes he disappears on tape. He’ll need to correct that this season to help his draft grade.

Tight Ends

1. C.J. Fiedorowicz, Iowa – Fiedorowicz has the size and blocking ability you look for in a tight end, but he needs to make more explosive plays in the passing game.

2. Chris Coyle, Arizona State – Coyle is a great receiving tight end but lacks elite size and might have to transition to the H-back position in the NFL.

3. Arthur Lynch, Georgia – Lynch is a consistent player who has all the skills you look for in a tight end. He could move up the rankings this year with a quality senior season.

4. Jacob Pedersen, Wisconsin – Pedersen is a better athlete then people give him credit for and will be a focus in the passing game this year at Wisconsin.

TBH, I'm really not crazy about any of next year's prospects at WR or TE. I like Jordan Matthews, but he's not a guy I see developing into an 'elite' NFL WR. Watkins and Lee are pretty much your typical college stud WR's but neither really stand out to me as being guys you feel good about drafting in terms of feeling pretty sure you didn't take a future bust.

 

I really hope we can find a way to get Smitty's replacement via a trade. If we can find a team willing to part with a still young #1 WR we should jump at the chance. Something like what the Bears did with Brandon Marshall, though I'd be willing to give up a 1st or 2nd for the right player. Victor Cruz, for example, if contract talks stall with the Giants.

 

At this point it looks to me like we're probably going to be drafting Gross's replacement in the 1st and then maybe look for a WR in the 2nd with some big upside. Looking at that list I don't know that we'll be missing out on much using that approach, TBH. I just don't see a lot of separation - no pun intended - between the projected 1st/2nd round guys.

 

Granted, those rankings will likely look totally different come next April and probably include at least 2-3 guys who have yet to explode onto the scene.

watch those guys this year in the post i posted above yours. they all have #1 potential in my eyes.

Jordan Matthews is also cousin to Jerry Rice. Matthews and Hoffman has tremendous size.

 

I would love to add one of those two, and sign a veteran OT through FA after we cut Dwill.

I find both Devin Street and Jordan Matthews very interesting.  

 

Matthews especially.  I'll get a chance to go to Vandy's closed practices this year and will definitely be interested in seeing him and Kenny Ladler at FS.
