Two 2014 Recievers not named Lee or Watkins

Recommended Posts

Mike Evans is an intriguing prospect. Probably a 2nd rounder guy but could raise his stock into the 1st.

I say:

1st: OT

2nd: WR/CB

FA: OG/WR

I agree 100%. Only thing I'd add is a legitimate FS (Not a band aid, someone who doesn't completely suck) for when we release Godfrey.

Sammy Watkins is the next Smitty... I said it. And I wear briefs that have #89 written all over them.

Sammy Watkins doesn't fight for contested balls which is one of Smitty's greatest traits.  If he fixes that the comparison might hold some weight, but right now he can't be compared to him....

Watkins has a toughness about him and can fight for contested balls (agreed not to the extent of Smitty).  The reason you don't see it is because of his separation.  He has usually blown by any defender.

When put in situations where he needed to go up and attack the ball he didn't.  It's not just me he who sees it, read Draft stock pieces about the guy, most of them mention it.  Yea at times he doesn't need to because he's behind the defender, but when a defender is on his hip, or able to close he's not overly aggressive as far as winning the ball in the air.  Not trying to say he's a scrub because it's 1A/1B as far as Lee and Watkins are concerned, but he hasn't (to this point) shown the willingness to go up above the defender and attack the ball in contested situations.

Barely even gets off the ground on this catch attempt.  If he goes up and attacks that ball he's able to secure the catch and the DB has no chance to knock it free.  Like I said I'm not bashing Sammy Watkins.  I love his game.  He's a good route runner, excellent in space, has good success through press coverage, and he is a willing blocker.  But he hasn't consistently shown catches like the one against Maryland when placed in that opportunity.  Can he change that, absolutely.  But he doesn't do it regularly yet.

Jordan Matthews having a game: 7rec 124yds 1td with 7min left to go on the 4th vs Ole Miss.

Moncrief: 4rec 52yds

Edit: What a shoot out game it was!

Matthews finished with 10rec, 178yds, 1td

Moncrief with 5rec 56yds

Game ended with a pass through Matthews' hands that led to an INT. Other than the last play, if Matthews keep this kind of performance up he could very well be a 1st rounder next year.

USC vs Hawaii

Lee starting to a slow start: 3rec 27yds

Qise ended up with 8 catches for 104 yards.  Really came alive in the third quarter.  As QB play becomes a little more stable and Kiffin gets a little less conservative we'll see his numbers continue to increase.  Not a bad start, but I'm sure all the people who will just look at box scores and make assumptions will say he sucked or whatever....
