Chemex Users? (Coffee Thread)

I've been a casual coffee drinker since college (13 years ago), usually a couple of cups a day. I buy decent coffee but nothing exceptional. I drink crap (dunking donuts) at work every day because that's what we buy and brew for all employees. Long story short, after having the absolute best cup of coffee in my life last month, brewed by a barista using a Chemex, and a nice trip to Costa Rica that included plenty of quality coffee, I think I'm about to order a Chemex and start my journey towards coffee snobery. So...anyone out there using a Chemex or pour-overs? Any advice on what to buy? Beuler?

I didn't know dunkin doughtnuts was crap :(

I've been brewing the pre-ground Starbucks French Roast because it was on sale at Harris-Teeter.  I got into coffee about 4 years ago and am a full fledged addict now.  I drink about 2-3 cups per day, straight black.

I suppose it's about time to step my game up and dabble on the finer side of coffee.  Those Chemex look nice.

I've been drinking it for five years now where I work pretty much every morning. I just can't take it anymore. I know plenty of people that love DD coffee.

Never understood the appeal of DD coffee.  Its ok, but nothing more.

I used to have a Chemex that my parents gave me when I first moved out. They had used it when they were first married.  It would be about 50 years old today but like a young dumb ass I threw it away and got a Mr. Coffee maker instead.  They have Chemex on display/for sale at the MOMA.

I had a cup of coffee with dinner at a restaurant in costa rica just to try it. they wheeled out this crazy contraption and poored hot water on the beans. I thought i was on meth. I was up till 5 am, it was insane.

Haha thought sounds awesome and terrible at the same time.

    • No, you're right. It doesn't mean you can't call out his flaws and poor play. But it also doesn't mean you can't admit when he plays well and shows improvement. Not you personally, just in general I mean.
    • I will say, I do think there's a version of Bryce that could be really successful as a high-volume passer in a spread-based offense built around quick throws and timing-based intermediate throws with deeper throws schemed up around them. I actually think the power run based offense we're running is a poor fit for Bryce as it requires him to play under center far more often. It's a very traditional offensive approach whereas I think a scheme that spreads defenses out and lets Bryce distribute the ball quickly with anticipation and accuracy is the sweet spot for him. The key, of course, is to find a way to run the ball efficiently out of those formations. Our personnel right now (backs and OL) aren't good fits for that style of offense and I'm not sure it's a scheme Dave Canales favors very much either.
    • I root for him, and I hope for the best, as does essentially everyone. But that doesn’t mean you can’t call out flaws and bad plays. And that’s what a lot of people get wrong.  I hope I’m wrong and that he continues to improve a lot, I just doubt it. But I’ve been wrong before
