Horncats interested in Al Jefferson

Im just looking at it this way.  We dont sign Jefferson(if interested) so that we can tank and get a top 5 pick.   We end up not getting a top 5 pick b/c Kemba plays like an All-Star and the team is better than we all expected.  We just missed out on getting a 20/10 guy.  Why not...

...sign Jefferson

With the possibilities of 3 first round picks next year, make a trade with our assets for a star during/after the draft.

The front court would be legit with Jefferson/Zeller/Biyombo.  Backcourt of Kemba/Henderson/MKG/Taylor, then add in the 3 draft picks and the money leftover to spend on FA's.  We would STILL have a much better team that should make the playoffs and be a tough team to beat.

Yeah, I would've been happy with the move two years ago... Now? Not so much. He's going to want the full 5-year deal and probably at least 9-10 per. I just don't want to commit that money to him at this stage in his career. I'd rather keep collecting assets and build with youth. Hickson doesn't have the size Jefferson does but, he is younger and would still possibly be the most talented big we've ever had for much cheaper.

And I like Jefferson, I just don't want to commit that much money to him. We just drafted Zeller to be a core piece and supposedly Biz has been considered a key piece as well, so why commit that much money to Jefferson? Yes, I know he immediately gives us post scoring but, still... It reminds me of the attempted Dragic signing from last year. Sure, we all got excited because we almost spent money for a change but, why were we attempting to sign him to starter money with Kemba already showing signs of success?

Jefferson would be great for the Hornets..but 29 next season...5 year close to max deal good?

The last three years of the deal is what you would be concerned with not the next two season which I would feel he would duplicate easily.

He doesn't really build his game off speed or anything, so even if he's early 30's at the end, he'll still be able to score at the post and make jumpers.  He's just crafty and I don't see that dwindling down till mid-late 30's probably.

Well said...basically what I was trying to say.

Not an indictment on Jefferson, he would be the Bobcats best ever player...

Biz is not developing into an offensive guy..he needs to be considered what he would be: a bench shot blocking rebounder. He just has little feel for the game offensively and will improve but marginally.

MKG and Kemba still could be considered conerstones..I just do not see it in Biz. Not as a starter anyway.

But, the thing is we're not going anywhere with Biz. If anyone think that Biz is a main piece to get us anywhere close to a Championship, then you better quit smoking whatever you're on. I haven't quit on the man, but I know his potential. His offensive game is no where close Ibaka.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
