Hypothetical Question

Lets say Kenjon Barner has a great Preseason. Which it's looking like he will. Week 1 rolls around and Stewart isn't ready yet. Or Stewart gets hurt and has to miss a game or two. Who starts in his place? Williams/Tolbert or Williams/Barner.

Nonetheless he is probably the future and I expect to see Barner used in the passing game a lot this season.

Williams/Tolbert with a little Barner sprinkled in.

What would Barner have to show you in Preseason for you to feel comfortable starting him over Tolbert? Tolbert relied on our OL to make holes and his size to gain yards. I feel that if our OL suffers an injury or is worse than expected we could need Barners speed on the outside.

Williams/Barner

Tolbert is still the primary full back, lets not forget that his first job is to block. However, if Stewart is out, Tolbert will receive extra carries and most likely all of the goal line carries.

I think people get so caught up in the fact that we are paying our running backs a fortune that they don't realize how lucky we are to have four good half backs.

Solid pass blocking and an understanding of protection schemes.

    • Care to elaborate why you disagree? We kicked the ball off 3 times and we kept the Browns to starting field position of the 22, 27, and 10 (would have been 21 before a penalty). All 3 of those are successes with the modern kickoff rule.
    • Its August so obviously quality options are not there. The question is whether any improvement can be made to the bottom of the depth chart.
    • NFL has a huge amount of parity.  The talent level between most NFL starters outside of the top 5 to 10 guys at a position is very comparable.  2020 worst teams Jacksonville Jaguars - 1-15 (worst record in NFL) New York Jets - 2-14 Cincinnati Bengals - 4-11-1 Atlanta Falcons - 4-12 Houston Texans - 4-12 Carolina Panthers - 5-11 Detroit Lions - 5-11 Philadelphia Eagles - 4-11-1 Los Angeles Chargers - 7-9 Denver Broncos - 5-11 2024 Worst teams New York Giants - 3-14 (tied for worst) Cleveland Browns - 3-14 (tied for worst) Tennessee Titans - 3-14 (tied for worst) New England Patriots - 4-13 Carolina Panthers - 5-12 Jacksonville Jaguars - 4-13 Las Vegas Raiders - 4-13 New York Jets - 5-12 Chicago Bears - 5-12 Arizona Cardinals - 8-9 Bengals, Texans, Lions, Eagles, Broncos and the Jags have all made the the playoffs in the last 3 years. What I'm saying is it's stupid to argue when team is the worst when there is so much parity and the system allows quick turnarounds.
