Any deer hunters here?

My dad has been an avid deer hunter all of his life, so naturally I was forced to go hunting with him many times as a youth. I say forced because the whole experience was not for me. Freezing while sitting in a tree stand while dresses in camos, not being able to speak or even move. Killing, dragging it out of the woods, skinning and gutting the animal. Just not my cup of tea. However, I have absolutely no problem with those that do hunt. After all, I would much rather you be consuming the deer rather than me hitting it while driving my car. And I know a lot of people (like my dad) get much enjoyment out of it. I also find it ironic that people complain about killing an innocent animal, because if those same people knew of the inhumane way that their grilled chicken, rib-eye steak and pork chops made their way to the dinner table, they would become vegans.

As far as the taste, I really don't like deer burgers or deer steak, but one of my dads hunting buddies makes deer chopped BBQ ever year around Christmas time and it's awesome. Way better taste and way less fat/grease than pork.

hunted deer when I was younger but where I live now it's just far too populated and they only have shotgun and bow seasons.  I have too many other ways to spend my time to spend a weekend or more out travelling around.  My brother goes to a place way up in Northern B.C. every year.  Float plane drops them off at a lake, they canoe to their camp and most years, they don't see sign of another human for the full 10 days they are there.  This is elk country he is hunting in...and you haven't lived until you have had opportunity to eat wilderness elk!

I would imagine that having to field dress it and move it before the grizzly bears get to you would add a whole 'nother level of excitement. That's serious hunting.

ya...before he left this time he said he was concerned about bears as the place is crawling with them...this concerned me because he's been going to the same place for years and he's never been worried about them.  I'm hoping it wasn't some sort of premonition!!!

they are extremely disciplined about where they cook and eat and how far from their bed that is and everything gets cleaned and hung way up in the trees etc.

that said, he says between the long days and the fire side whiskeys, getting to sleep is never an issue but he also threw in that rarely will he make it through the entire night without waking up at some point in the night and hear the bears outside.  They sleep in big canvas wall tents....I'm thinking bears would look at this as giant human burritos.
