Rap is getting replaced with techno/trance?

When I was growing up rap used to be the poo. Radio played eminem, 50 cents, TI and many others. Now radio is full of trance and techno... When I moved to US, everyone used to make fun of Europeans but it's seems US is slowly drifting in that direction... When I heard Armin Van Buuren on 95.1 the other day I was like wtf is happening?

I understand that everyone has different musical tasts and preferences, like for example I much prefer the Singer/Songwriter and Indi genre to pretty much anything else, but that's manly because I enjoy my music being more lyrical.

but out side of Jay Z and Macklemore there isnt a single rap artist I'd waste my time listening to, now that doesn't mean there aren't other ones worthy out there, but just in my opinion right now there isn't.

Electric and Techno music is greatly based on being original and being different from everyone else, like Daft Punks latest "Random Access Memories" making Disco cool again, and who would have ever thought that would happen again, Skrillex created a new sub genre altogether with Dubstep and and many other musical groups have adopted it and his Bass drop. it's just a more progressive music right now then anything else.

Not that I'm a big dubstep guy, but Skrillex certainly had nothing to do with the creation of the genre.  He had a role in popularizing it in the States, but dubstep predates Skrillex.

You would willingly subject yourself to Macklemore, but shun every other hip hop/rap artist? Yikes.

They're not replacing it with techno and trance. I would call it electronic-influenced pop-music. Techno would be stuff like Adam Beyer, Victor Calderone, Sven Vaeth, Richie Hawtin, etc. They wouldn't play that stuff in a million years. And as for Armin's debut on Kiss 95.1, that's a pop song from a once-respected trance artist/DJ. He opened up his set at UMF in Miami with Clarity for crying out loud. Teeny boppers loved it. I felt like throwing up. And don't even get me started on Avicii's "Wake Me Up."

    • New season new teams. Everyone we face has improved their team as well. There's now a full season of tape on Canales's offense and Bryce running it. When they win 7 games I will become a believer.
    • I mean I think its a bit disingenuous to call basically anyone here a casual fan. I don't think the casual fan creates a profile then logs into it, in the offseason, to comments on mundane offseason topics.. I dont think anyone on here would be considered a casual fan. That said, I get your point. My POV is from the player. They sign this contract, move their family because of these contracts. When Clowney came him, we basically had a coming home party for him.  So yeah, I get why we did it and I know that ultimately the owner doesnt 'save' money, but I can feel for the human side of the player, which is why I want them to get all they can while they can.
    • My guess is the NBA will either send Flagg back “home” to the Northeast in Brooklyn or Washington, or San Antonio so that they can keep building around Wemby. If I was a betting man I would take the odds on the Spurs. This definitely feels like a #1 pick that they will rig.
