2014 QB Talk

I'll give you the persona, especially after he got in trouble for groping someone.

What about Murray?

I think Murray can be very successful in the right system.

I believe he has one of the most refined games out of the draft class with the intangibles to come along with it but his restrictions are there.  I think he's shown he is NFL-caliber accurate and has occasionally quieted the arm strength doubters this season.  Good vision, quick decision maker.

I can honestly see him as a Cutler/Big Ben heir type deal.  Give him the Rodgers treatment with a good offense in place coming into the league and he could actually be damn good.

If I had to choose, out of the Ms of the SEC, he'd be at the top of my list ahead of Manziel and Mettenberger.

My favorite thing about him is how easily he can make it seem to place the ball just perfectly for receivers in tough spots.

i mentioned Mettenberger on page 1 in my top 5, but Murray is also a decent prospect which should be a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

Sorry. Missed it.

My worries about Mettenberger relate to his unfortunate similarities to another four-syllable 'Berger' (both good and bad).

If I was a team I would look at Michael Vick and see the same thing in Mariota. I would be afraid of Mariota's durability in the NFL. Someone that plays at 210lbs will get destroyed by an NFL LBer.

Mariota is NOTHING like Vick. Have you even seen him play? He's already a better passer then Vick has ever been and he's only 19 years old! Being that he's only 19 and the son of a rather large Samoan, I'm guessing he wont stay 210 pounds for very long. Also, Mariota knows how to slide and get out of bounds.

his arm is very comparable. i also heard about his off field actions which is as like Ben, but he doesnt seem to have the pocket awareness of Ben. but he might have the best arm in the draft.Mariota arm is pretty good too.

that is a bad comparison. Mariota is 6'4 which means his body can pack on extra weight and he has better decision making/arm then Vick coming out of college. if you can, please watch the game from saturday vs Washington and you will see why some think he may pass TeddyB and be the 1st QB taken.

here is his cutups from draftbreakdown.com which is a great site.

The longer I go, the less interested I get in how far they can throw and the more intrigued I am by how accurately they can throw.

That's not to say I want a weak armed guy though.  I'm not ready to go WCO.

...so you're saying you like Murray?

He's got an above avg arm (nothing great) with great accuracy.  They give em' crap for being 6'1 but that's not that short.

I like the kid.  Athletic and accurate.

What do y'all think of Logan Thomas?  Me: I think he has all the tools in the world but just doesn't seem like a true-QB.  He's way too inaccurate.

his last couple of weeks has been pretty good. he has the tools to be very good, but must work on his reads and footwork.

Like? Yeah, but not strongly.  I'm underwhelmed without really knowing why.

(maybe it's the height vs guys like Bridgewater and Mettenberger)

Thought I'd like Bridgewater less because of the 'level of competition' thing, but after watching him against Rutgers I was blown away,

Murray hasn't really 'blown me away' yet.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
