[officiating] Anybody See that Muffed Punt by the cowboys blocker last night?

Cowboys player was blocking, ball hit him on the rear end.  Redskins recover.

Officials get together and rule that the cowboys player was blocked into the ball.

I watch this and think that this is exactly how all of the panthers' turnovers on punts have been.

Is this an actual rule?  That a blocker can be "blocked" into the ball and it's not a muff?  Because we've never gotten that call in franchise history.

I can see the Dallas 12th Man, I mean NFL officials have received their orders to get Dallas all the help they can.

being blocked is how nearly all punt touches occur. I've seen that call happen before but when the receiving team is pushed from behind and the ball hits him. The Dallas player was engaged in a block and the ball hit him in the ass. Should have been Redskins balls.

I saw a tweet about this earlier, but I did not watch that game...

Here's the gif...

I see why they ruled that... looks to me like the skins player sees the ball and intentionally pushes him into it...

I think I've heard of this rule before, but never really seen it enforced...  can't recall.

here's something else I didn't notice.  See how the redskin defender is out of bounds, not engaged with a blocker, moving laterally with respect to the sideline?  not making an immediate effort to get back in?

Is that better or worse than what armond smith did that drew two flags in one game?

that incident reminded me of a similar one when we played the redskins in 2009.  one of our gunners blocked one of their players into their punt returner.  the returner flopped, his foot made contact with the ball, and our ST players dove on it.  after a referee conference and review, they turned the ball over to the panthers with no flag for fair catch interference.  how is this different?

    • It really is insane how they always try to rig the game vs Dallas. Two exceptions being our playoff games.    Had we lost it definitely would have been right up there with the 2014 Playoffs vs 49ers, Dallas 05, Saints 2018 Playoffs, and SB50 as all time rigged games.
    • Say you don't understand PFF without saying you don't understand PFF... Every week seems like some of the same people are complaining about something they clearly don't understand.  I'm not saying they are the end all resource out there but once you understand their methodology you can start to appreciate some of their work. For example, their grading system isn't a high school grading system, try to look at some of it in relative terms.  Rico had an 82 rushing grade, that's pretty good.  I would be curious to know how that compares to every other running back this past weekend. Also, I think he had a few penalties, which if I'm not mistaken are graded pretty harshly.
    • Can we go back to square one for a minute and remember what we paid for this guy and how he was sold?  He was like, the anti excuse. Makes everybody better, Did we get that?  I think the answer is still coming but so far you might can say that for a game or two.  Cam had issues with personnel every season almost. Horrible OL, but he had receivers. Decent to good OL no receivers. Etc. Bryce needs to stand up, or keep standing up, however you want to put it. It is big boy time in year 3. He doesn’t have to make the playoffs but there is a standard. We’ll see what happens.  But the excuses are just fuging tired.  ps, I mean let’s not crown him when he has franchise record production in two wins,.. let’s see when they stop that, how he does then.
