Shula also deserves some credit for our stout D.

Key word here, SOME. Please dont get up in arms. Why you ask? Simple, nothing lifts a defense like a offense that keeps the ball nearly an entire quarter. God I love ground and pound, clock control offenses. Forget this basketball style, shoot out type offenses. I just love seeing offenses like ours that is super stingy with that football and doesnt like to give it back and just pounds it. I love seeing opposing defenses winded and tired and I love seeing our defense on the becnch relaxing for nearly an entire quarter.

This isnt the NBA, scores in the NFL arent suppose to be 42-55. Get the fug outta here with that mess. I dont think our D would have been as good with Chud still here because you just cant underestimate how much of a impact it has on a D that can rest on the bench for aslong as possible, and with ground and pound Shula ball, our D can do just that and im loving every minute of it.

Actually there is some merit to this. We are #1 in the NFL in time of possession per drive. The result is that our defense has faced the lowest number of possessions in the entire NFL.

But our defense has been really really good as well. Not taking anything away from the defense. But the less the other team has the ball, the less yardage and points they will be able to get.

Our defense has been awesome though, but it pains me to say that CP has a point.

Indeed. Sell all of your stocks, because the apocalypse is upon us, but he definitely has a point.

Time of possession is important but you have to score in this league. Especially against teams like the Aints, Fudge Packers, Etc.

If you finish a 9 minute drive with a TD like we did in the Vikings, that's even better against teams like the Saints, Packers, etc. because that takes away their time on offense, and as good as those teams are offensively they don't score every drive.

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
