iPad Air

I'm debating on buying one of these. I've never had an Apple product before but they look pretty damn sweet.

I considered going with one of the Samsung tablets but from what I understand Apple has way way more apps optimized for tablets, whereas on Android you end up with a bunch of phone apps that are just stretched to fit the bigger screen which is a big waste.

Anyone have thoughts or input to add?

iPad Air and iPhone 5s are the only 64 bit mobile devices out there.  They have raised the bar for performance...at least for a few months.

I'm actually thinking about the second generation iPad mini, which is due towards the end of November.  It will have the same chipset, and at $100 less than the air, will be an outstanding value.

I usually get the new model when they come out and didn't even know this ipad had come out till Friday. I have the 4th gen ipad and after reading multiple reviews, seems the only noticeable difference is a slight weight difference. This video showing all the iPads side by side doing same thing shows how minimal the differences are in last few iPads as far as performance. If you are considering buying one, you may consider a used 3rd or 4th gen, probably a lot around right now from people that upgraded to the ipad air.

If you don't have one, then go for it.  If you have an ipad that isn't chugging in iOS7 (our ipad3 is still kicking quite well), then I think the upgrade is pretty meh.  Ipads are nice devices that's for sure.

Apple has the better app market place due to the closed nature of the platforms.  There are some really sweet games and other apps only on iOS because of this kind of platform.  I love android, and I'm going to keep using them as my phone, but for tablets, I love the ipad and Windows8.

Apple is doing something kinda strange with new ipad, usually when the new version comes out, you can get the previous one for like $100 cheaper, well the new IPad air is the 5th generation, so normally the 4th gen would be offered for less, yet the choices are now the new Air 5th gen OR the 2nd gen, that's it. I think it might be related to the fact the 3rd and 4th are so close to speed of 5th, they thought it might make more people pick a 4th over a 5th. I wonder if they still have a huge stock of the 2nd gen or if they are still making them? Also messed up is that like iPhone 5, the 4th and 5th gen use the lightning plus while now the 2nd gen uses the older 30piin, so your going to a different adapter that was replaced.

    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
    • I said this ALL last season and will say it again this year. Our record means diddly squat this year, I don't care if we have 0 wins or 17 wins, I only care about one thing and one thing only. Bryce proves without a shadow of a doubt that he IS or ISN'T our long term solution at QB. It's the only thing that matters for the same reason it sucks that this is the same thing as last year.  This needs to be determined, and if they can't determine it, then it's still telling the team the answer, just not the one they want to hear. As right now we're in the ultimate QB purgatory, a position that dooms franchises for years.  Just look at a team like the Cardinals, who extended a better QB and it still screwed them over and haven't had a contending team in a long time. People get too caught up on wins and losses when evaluating players, particularly QBs.  When people look at the final record and use that as a reason to want to extend a QB or not is just a fools errand.  If we had lost 2-3 more games last year because we didn't make a last second FG, I genuinely wonder if we would have just moved on from Bryce this offseason (like we should have been doing anyways IMHO).
