DRAFT SPECULATION/NEWS THREAD

McD can learn defense under Clifford, no problem.

The problems is, he is too slow to handle the SF's and too small to handle PF's. That is the tweener issue.

Yes, he has a good shot and can be used coming off the bench for situational scoring, but not sure you want to go that route at #9, maybe mid teens, but not 9

I have enough faith in him to guard power forwards as much as I trust josh mcroberts. So we wouldn't be losing a lot. Yeah josh is taller but ain't worth a poo defensively.

That's why I have went through and tried to find the positives I like about him. Everything has pointed to him being the pick. So why cry as whine about it. Instead I'm gonna back the guy and become his biggest fan and root for him. Instead of secretly hoping he fails so I can say I told ya so.

I'm a hornet fan and no matter who we pick I will back day one. But everybody be prepared bc it might happen and when it does just try to relax and think about the positives. Lol

No i'll still be a fan while bashing them for picking a bench player and totally saying a big FU to MKG.

That will be 3 picks spent on 1 position in 3 years.

I can't take a positive view of a FO that does stupid poo like that.

But you want to spend the #9 for that?  Kinda low expectations?

I know Clifford has said he will be a sf but I believe he can play pf and do just as good as josh did against opposing pf's. And even if he is a bench player we could run a small ball lineup and take nothing away from MKG.

It can work. Just gotta be positive

We'll I think he will be a ton better offensively than mcroberts. Scoring wise. If he can average 15 and 8 while not getting demolished on d then I'll take it as there isn't a lot too choose from at 9 and I think stauskas is our best bet but I'm trying to prepare myself for the McDermott pick.

Besides if Mcbob had mcbuckets shooting stroke we wouldn't be having this convo.

Can you run the offense thru him like Mcroberts is the question? And while Mcbob isn't a great defender he is longer more athletic and will attempt to block a shot.

I'll give you 75$ if he comes close to avg. 15 pts and 8 rebounds. Which is a pipe dream.

No u can't run the offense through him in a point forward type role that is was fr mcbob. But u can sign a better ball handling shooting sg that can like Stephenson.

I have faith in Clifford teaching and coaching McDermott to play good team defense and ISO man on man with help. He capable and has the work ethic. I'm being very optimistic tho.

You don't have to agree with all the moves your favorite team makes to be a fan.

I didn't say instantly or his rookie year. I think he's capable tho. May not happen but he has the shot and ability to do so. The rebound stat might be too high. Call me crazy for hoping for the best.

You can't teach a person to guard Lebron, Durant, Melo, George, Gay, and others. They just can or can't.

    • Yeah, Darnold is basically a really high level game manager. Put him on a good team where he isn't required to provide lift and he can shine. But when you need him to do the franchise QB thing and put the team in his back here comes the INTs. He just doesn't seem to have any positions on his dial between "super conservative take whatever's there and take care of the ball" and "YOLO!!! There's a receiver down there somewhere in that sea of defenders!"
    • See, it's posts like this that show me how many of you are taking my post as an anti Dowdle post and saying he didn't have a good game, but that's the furthest thing from my intention and what I'm trying to say. Because that's the comparison you're making with Bryce, it's adding or removing a small handful of plays from their stats and saying "this is the game they could have had instead" I'm literally only talking about the play calling from the game, it's literally in the title of the thread, that we still have play calling problems. I'm saying that people are going to get stuck on the 200 yard rushing game by a player and extrapolate that to "well Canales must have called a good game" and I'm trying to say not to fall for that mirage. Because 6 big runs do not make for a well called game when we had over 60 snaps. Even beyond that, if you add in the two 20+ yard catches from T-Mac and the one XL had, and you're looking at 9 of over 60 snaps that accounted for close to 60% of our yards in the game. That's a few big plays covering up for coaching deficiencies, that's NOT a well called 60 minutes of football. Had he had the 200 yards because Canales' play calling was keeping the defense on their heels, not knowing what we were doing next, and Dowdle was ripping of 8-12 yard runs on a consistent basis, then yea, that would be something to be excited about with Canales finally calling a good game for a change. Our offense is predictable and the play design is basic, there is nothing I've seen out of Canales' offense that says he's able to scheme and call plays to outsmart the defense, which is something all the elite offensive coaches are able to do in this day and age.
    • Dante Moore is the top pick in a couple of mock drafts now.
